Creepy scenario (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Affectionate_Fart
So as I was leaving my store, I was at my car and placing my food into my front seat as I went to grab it there was a guy at my back passenger door (I was at the driver side), this guy was a homeless person that frequents my store. He addressed me by name, (the one on my name tag) proceeds to go on about me being scared (well no shit Sherlock,) it was about a 30 second interaction and I got into my car, which was unlocked in all four sides…as he walked forward and then turned around to walk back inside my cafe store. It literally scared the shit out of me and I tried to be pleasant because it’s outside my job, but…I am not sure if I’m overreacting or not. But it scared me enough to let my SM know about it (because I have a lot of young female baristas there). What would you have done if someone approached you as you were leaving? At least strippers get protection when walking from their job…

even if its off the clock, if you're in your store's parking lot (as far as i'm aware) you're on starbucks property and can/should let your SM know... you might not be able to file an incident report if it didn't happen during open hours (this might not be fact) but if at any point a customer or member of the public makes you feel uncomfortable on company property you should let your SM know. at the end of the day, it's just coffee, you should NEVER feel like you are unsafe over an overpriced fast-food coffee shop.

glad you are safe and hope you don't have to deal with that again 💖

It's not overreacting. Go with your gut, don't care about being rude, loud, and demanding that they stay away from you. I worked in a big city and had to learn to be firmly unwilling to be messed with, and keep pepper spray as a back up (Never had to use it but once was close to, as I was followed for blocks by a homeless inebrieted man, but I got to a transit center where there was security presence to ask for assistance)

There is no excuse to scare someone like that and it could easily be a dangerous situation if you brush it off, if an opportunist takes advantage of your kindness.

Stay alert and don't worry about being polite, esp to men near your personal space, especially if you are alone at night. They deserve nothing from you, even if you WERE at work, taking the trash out or whatever.
