(TRENTA RANT) Green bean keeps barging into everything except the station theyre on. I don’t know how to say anything cause 1. I tried to 2. How would I word it again to not seem pushy or repetitive 3. I’m still a green bean too I’d say so I feel like I’m not in a place to “boss them” (2 months in).(self.starbucksbaristas)

So this new person started recently and are going to literally every station except theirs. They were on drive bar I was DTO/Warm and there were drive thru drinks awaiting to be made, they come over and trample me with trying to help warming- I do appreciate the help don’t get me wrong, but it messes me up and I had like 6 tickets for food I think which is not a lot obviously. Plus there’s really only room for 1 person between moving fast and having access to our 2 fridges, pastries, ovens and the warming station itself.
It’s just kind of aggravating when I can see a ticket for drive (Which I would have loved to have been on instead of dto/warm) and they’re over here in my way, messing me up, I feel bad for thinking this but I just need to let it out. Like they feel like (or at least it seems) they want to act like a shift or manager and want to do everything like no you stay on your station and if you switch stations with someone you need to get right back to where you belong as soon as you can, at least that’s what the shifts have told us in our store.
Also I was like “oh it looks like there’s a ticket for drive over there for you!” (Like in a nice oh idk if you noticed this type way and they came right back)
Any advice or comments? I feel awful for thinking this about them because they’re nice and all it’s just frustrating and annoying honestly.
It was not only on stations with me, I saw it all day with others too

“Oh it looks like you’re taking over for me on (position.) I’ll go ask (shift) what they want me doing instead.” and walk away immediately. When your shift asks , act confused and explain they just walked over and started doing your job so you assumed lmao.

This is so smart haha

I would tell a shift or your sm. At least so they’re aware of it and let them know how you feel. Maybe they can let the other person know to stay on their own position?

Happens at my store all the time. There will be a green bean on register and they will literally come over to me on bar and start reaching for stickers. Like no its guna mess up me drink sequencing. Worst part is, ill be doing a hot drink and the sticker they pull, if its a hot drink, theyll do it right next to me on the other machine. I appreciate help but i dont need it at the moment. I told this one green bean "thank u for the help but its kinda slow right now but ill let u kno first if i need a hand" and she put her hands up like "okaaay". ???? She didnt need to get offended because thats the nicest way possible to say that. I dont get it. And also wenever a green bean clocks in, they beeline it straight to bar and start pulling stickers and making drinks. I go "hey did u ask (shift in charge) what they need or where they want u?" And she says "oh i think shes in the back, ill wait til she comes out to ask her"...

Yeah I don’t get how people would get offended over that 🤷🏻♀️ and like don’t get me wrong I’d love to just hop on bar instead of being stuck in the window but i always ask where I am needed whenever I clock in

Yea like thats what u do. Especially if it's super busy then you go ask the shift in charge what position they need or want u on. And if its dead, literally dont need help on bar. Not a mean thing, i just literally dont need help when theres 2 drinks. Because the one time there was literally two drinks. I had one drink on one of the espresso machines which was an iced latte and then I forget what the other drink was on the other espresso machine. But a green bean had clocked in and made a beeline straight over the bar where I was and she literally stood in front of the one machine with the iced latte and I was like oh I don't really need help right now it's pretty slow but I appreciate it but maybe you can find (shift in charge) and ask her where she needs u. Green bean says oh ill just wait til she comes outfront from the back, i just wana do this drink. Like wat?? Its literally 2 drinks. I wud never clock in and go to someone thats on warming with one thing in each oven only and literally take over and finish one of the foods. Its not necessary

Exactly

Now I am a shift so I am thinking from that perspective, and if you'd like you can absolutely ask your shift to talk to them about this, but to me it seems like the green bean simply hasn't worked a food job before, or at least one at a higher pace. I think simply explaining to them the importance of keeping each job filled, and sticking to your job to keep the system functioning should be enough for a first correction. If they don't improve after that, have the shift talk to them if that wasn't the first action, and take it to higher powers if improvement doesn't start at that point. To me it seems more of a lack of understanding rather than a lack of good will. Overenthusiasm, really.

Thank you!

Tell them to stfu, mind their bus and stay at their station. It’s called a planted position for a reason

Ummm… don’t say this if you want to have a good working relationship with them. 🙃
