I have to find my own coverage??? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by HelpImDumb2
So I went to call in this morning cause my throat is swollen and I just feel like garbage, the shift who answered the phone asked if it's covid related. I told them it's from my allergies, the rapid changes in weather and im allergic to my cat so her shedding doesn't help. I could also simply be sick but im not sure. Anyways, my shift told me I'd have to find coverage and she would look too, she said we would talk later. I am calling off because I'm feeling ill, why do I have to find my own coverage, ALSO I don't have anyone's numbers who don't work today so that sucks. My shift is supposed to start in an hour and im not gonna show up but im not sure if she marked me down as calling off.

Is this normal :/

In the last store wide meeting we had, the DM made it clear that if you are ill it is not your job to find the coverage.

from what i know, you’re not responsible for finding coverage

That's what I thought, I've had problems with this shift before and I think she thinks I'm faking or smthn cause she just does not like me and every time I've called off before and she has answered she makes it seem like I'm lying 🤷‍♀️

My store does this too, I just simply don't find the coverage. Its an ahole move, but the poster where the schedule is says if im not feeling well I don't have to find coverage

We had a barista slip and have a concussion…she called out (which is fine) but she still drove (her car) through the DT for a free drink on the day she called off.

It’s never your responsibility to find coverage don’t let them tell you this . If they force you to find coverage you’re essentially working while off the clock to find them a person when you’re sick . Your manager is the one with all the resources and gets paid 4x what you make. it’s literally their job to find coverage, it’s their store. Sounds like u just got a lazy manger.

you should not have to find coverage if youre sick or have an emergency. if you (for example) wanted sunday morning off because you plan on getting shmacked on saturday night, then its up to you to find coverage, but never if you're sick

I think when you're sick with something that's not contagious you're still "able" to come in but obviously if you're not feeling well your SM can't deny you your sick time but I think you'd still be responsible for finding coverage. I think the circumstance where the SSV or SM are responsible for finding coverage is when you're sick with something that doesn't allow you to legally work with something like a foodborne illness. Don't know for sure though...

pretty sure that it’s policy to take care of your coverage if you’re calling off. some stores may be more lax tho.
