How do I deal with a popular shift who doesn't like me? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by pcrnography
This shift is petty, misgenders me often, and has forgotten my breaks multiple times. She will give me my breaks last and cut me first. She will cut me off in the middle of tasks to give me a new one, and then complain when something isn't done. There's one position in the store I won't do, and she will frequently say I can either do it or stay doing the same thing all day. She's well aware of everyone else's preferences, and is fine to cater to them. If her favorite baristas are having a bad day, they can do whatever they feel like. If I'm having a bad day, she will talk shit about me. She lies a lot because she's old and always believes she's right.

It's gotten a bit worse since I had a meeting with my manager (all I brought up were the missed breaks and misgendering, none of the snide comments or when I overheard her talking shit about me). I don't know what to do. I've tried being nice despite it all but it's really exhausting. I just don't speak to her anymore unless I have to. I'm debating transferring because the clique-y-ness of this store is so bad, but a few of my coworkers are really great people. I don't even know if it's worth telling my SM.

Definitely let your store manager know. Hopefully they support you and speak with this shift. I’m sorry this is happening to you

With the vibes of the store, I don't know if that would go over well. I feel like her favorite baristas would take it out on me. There's literally one other person (hired to this store around the same time as me) who gets a similar treatment and we can't talk to any other coworkers about it.

Unfortunately it seems like your options are pretty limited from what I can tell.

1. Put up with it and keep your head down.
2. Transfer stores.
3. Get this other person on your side and talk to your store manager. If you can, get other shift supervisors to support you. Start a paper trail. And if your SM won't listen to you, go to partner resources.

Thank you, I'll try the last option. I don't know why I hadn't thought of it

I hope it all works out, this isn't okay and people like this should never be promoted to supervisors. Best of luck <3

I’m sorry this is happening to you. That is a bad SSV. It’s so hard when you are working in such tight quarters because there is nowhere to get away from a bad coworker. Looks like you’ve gotten good advice on how to handle this but I wanted you to know that you are supported. Good luck.
