How do you cook your grilled cheese? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Sad-Ad-4872
I’ve worked with 2 different store managers and both told me differently. I was first told the buttery part should be on top but today I was told it should be on the bottom….?

Standard is butter side down. It's on the recipe card
zjb26 20 points 1y ago
I've never seen food cards, what!?
vanbibs22 6 points 1y ago
I pulled it up on the hub a while back (:
zjb26 3 points 1y ago
The mobile hub, or the one at work, because I want to see them 😂
vanbibs22 3 points 1y ago
At work

It’s also written on the package!
Brgnbo 45 points 1y ago
Honestly whatever side it lands on the paper depending on how busy it is
YungUglyUziGod 16 points 1y ago
I no longer work for the Bux, but this is the way.

Butter side down is standard
greyplains 15 points 1y ago
Soooo

There's two types of grilled cheese sandwiches depending on your district and distribution, the core (regular green label) which is butter side down, and the Mercado (fancier label and I believe in certain reserve stores) is butter side up.

Context: I was a former partner and was about to fight my SM in the streets until they brought it up on the main dashboard on the SM computer.

P.S.: if you're feeling fancy, do the GC butter side down on regular, then immediately flip over and run again on butter croissant! You're welcome in advance.

I do buttery side down because that’s how you would cook one at home
gabgasm 9 points 1y ago
For ours at least it says on the bag to warm butter side down
abandon_hopeless 8 points 1y ago
I always do butter on the bottom because thats what people on this sub say tastes better but honestly who knows. I do not think there is a specific standard on this but I could be wrong.

If you grab your stores iPad, under store resources, look up crispy grilled cheese. It will give you the food card with the instructions to warm it butter down. They also go in the big white warming bags instead of the regular panini bags. :)
aspiringgrandpa 5 points 1y ago
bro what 😭 i’ve been yelled at so many times for putting them in the regular warming bags
It_is_Katy 2 points 1y ago
jfc either way it's hardly a big enough deal to warrant yelling at you for it. that sucks
sammieduck69420 2 points 1y ago
I sometimes do both but generally butter side down as it gets extra crispy
SomeComputer2992 6 points 1y ago
As an avid grilled cheese eater it’s an absolute must to put it butter side down.
Rita_Rossweisse 4 points 1y ago
If it’s bitter side up, it becomes COMPLETELY soiled with butter.
Butter side down crisps the edges, gives it that nice salty taste. Plus it’s standard
acnh1222 3 points 1y ago
At first I didn’t realize this was a Starbucks group and I was like “all of you are only putting butter on one side of your grilled cheese? How are you not absolutely burning it?” I was expecting a butter vs. mayo debate.

I started using Mayo for my grilled cheeses after I worked at 5 guys and that’s how they do it. It spreads so much more evenly and
jdbrougham 3 points 1y ago
Butter side down. I also do it on two parchments bc less grease overflow that way
lewtathamiv 2 points 1y ago
Butter side down, you can tell because it makes the bread turn a golden amber color. When it’s butter side up, it’s just soggy butter bread, where the bottom might get a few specks of darkness but for the most part it’s just melted butter cheese stick bread.
raycamaro 2 points 1y ago
Cook it butter side down till 30 seconds to go then flip it over and you will have a nice crispy buttery grilled cheese on both sides thank you you’re welcome
raycamaro 1 points 1y ago
This is for MY grilled cheese 😉
Nieios 2 points 1y ago
Butter down. The bread actually cooks like that, otherwise both sides are squishy and blegh
fidakitkat 2 points 1y ago
I do butter side up bc it drips less oil lmao I’ve been burned too many times by the grease
sleepyteaa 1 points 1y ago
idk if it’s correct officially, but in my HEART butter side down is correct 😩
aleksndrars 1 points 1y ago
Butter side up lol because it doesn't spill as much and I have hot oil scars, fuck the recipe card. I've never seen anyone do it the other way. This seems to be a reddit thing tbh
impasse602 1 points 1y ago
Wait theres a standard way of doing this?
Minibeanss 1 points 1y ago
I use salted butter and I put it on the side that it gets browned. And then I flip it again both sides get warmed and when I do I flip it again to have it brown more and I break up the cheese into 3 pieces and put it in there and wait till it gets nice and toasty brown
musically_shifted 1 points 1y ago
Butter side down, but if I’m making it for myself I do open faced 👹
FragrantWin9 1 points 1y ago
Instructions are right on the bag if I remember correctly
xoMisaa 1 points 1y ago
butter side down! that makes it crispyyyy
anitasdoodles 1 points 1y ago
Butter side down. And god help your forearm when you pull it out and it’s spitting hot oil at you.
dystopidrip 1 points 1y ago
unrelated to the post but all of y’all try your grilled cheeses cooked open faced!!! changed my life
Ordinary-Theory-8289 1 points 1y ago
I always cook my(personal) ones open faced. It actually gets crispy instead of soggy greasy bread and cheese
Fearless_While_9824 -4 points 1y ago
My store does butter up
barrrristaaa 1 points 1y ago
ew that’s not standard and also soggy? definitely not crispy
Fearless_While_9824 1 points 1y ago
