What I Hated About Working At Starbucks (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Calm_Water_3712
I haven't worked for the company in over 5 years ,and not all of it was bad. summers were brutal and I actually liked working holidays that paid time and a half. Christmas was the best cause those were the best tips and gifts from customers. And only those who worked Christmas day got those mad tips. The pay was not bad for our area, and I think part of it was because Howard, who was still CEO , lived close by...but gonna list some

1. Septic tank backup. Flooded store couldn't leave
2. State of emergency. Still had to work.
3. Pet was dying.Call manager. The manager wanted me to find coverage.Tried. Couldnt.Pet died 30mins before my shift.
4.Had to work all through the shift after the pet died. In tears.Manager told me would get me out asap because of my state... ended up not happening.
5. People fighting about cups of water. free grande of H20 was okay anything bigger you got charged the refill price.
6.Matcha Water pricing.
7."Well the Starbucks store I visit at home..."
8. "Can you make my Eggnog latte extra hot...why does it look like scrambled eggs?"
9.Bone Dry Cappuccino Customer
10. Introduction of playbook
11. Secret Menu Fraps...
12. Training to be supervisor. Did not get proper training
13. Gave 2wks notice. Told had to find coverage. Called HR and didn't get a resolution until after 2wks. Basically what we all thinking. You gave notice it's on them.
14. Didn't mind pranks left by closers, hated when their pranks involved cleaning their sauce and syrup art behind the line
15. Ringing up each item separately for stars.

Gonna say making large order drinks never bothered me or coworkers. It was common with production crews and events ordering large numbers. It took us away from customers bitching a bit. We had people come in wanting bulk pastry orders like the cake pops. We would give them what we had in the freezer IF we could spare that reasonable amount to be sold for that request or if they gave us advance notice order extra.

a lot has changed since you’ve been gone. i started in 2016 and it’s a completely different world now. also i’ve never heard of anyone charging for water? it’s been free at every store i worked at regardless of size. they’ve done away with the eggnog latte

We charged for the water when they wanted venti or trenta sizes only as a deterrent. Cup per sleeve those were expensive with the Trenta being the most expensive per cup in the sleeve of cups. Talls and Grandes were okay free but summer and holidays rushes you would run out those sizes mad fast. No matter how much you ordered those cups those were the sizes always ordered for iced drinks to go quickly. It did not help that we were the only Starbucks in the town with the closest 20mins away more if you are stuck in Summer traffic. We didn't have a drivethru. So lines out the door these days don't phase me, but when you are down a few partners in this current situation today you just wanna help them out. Even if it meant doing a slide or working back of house. Wonder if 🍅 or mushroom are still passwords

yeah we’ve never charged for cups of water at any size since i’ve been here. my store used to be the only one in town but they’ve since built another one. the secret menu stuff is basically just what people see on tiktok now and it’s a lot more ridiculous and a lot more available compared to what it used to be. i think being at the company for so long has really helped me remain calm even when we’re understaffed. it used to feel like the end of the world but i just suck it up and get through the day because tomorrow it won’t matter
