Anyone else do a running commute? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by quirky-enby
Any tips/tricks to make it easier? Any stories?

A lot of what I found online is for folks who work a sedentary job and then do a running commute, but there wasn’t much that took into account folks that are on their feet nearly the entire shift 😅

ETA: sorry forgot to say that I’d be running AFTER my shifts. Taking the bus into work is fine since I can wait in the lobby when there’s a larger time gap, but I mainly do closing shifts so there’s no way for me to stay inside for an hour until the next bus.

I feel like the hardest thing about running to work would be the sweat and potential smell? Maybe if there was a gym close by to grab a shower before your shift? Is walking not an option?

Yeah I’m okay to continue taking the bus to work since it’s during the day and I’d be able to hang out in the cafe for the 45 minute gap between arriving and starting.

My main problem has been *after* my shifts, when it’s dark out and the store is closed so I can’t sit inside for the 1hour wait for the next bus. Walking is possible, I just would like to get home sooner

Running home shouldn’t be that bad then. Just make sure you get yourself a reflective vest if you’re going to be doing it at night time. ☺️

Check if your eligible for free lyft rides and call to see.

We all had free Lyft rides available for our original store and were told it should cover the whole city—nope. None of us at our transferred stores have been able to access it.

I've walked 45 minutes to my store before, but I don't think I'd consider running since I'd definitely be fatigued + sweaty. On the way home it might be okay, but I wouldn't wanna go to work like that.

basically I’m at a different store temporarily while renovations happen. I do closing shifts, and I don’t like waiting for 45 minutes in the dark for a bus to then ride for another 45 minutes to my apartment. Also not familiar with any of the store partners so not comfy asking for a ride yet.

I brought a change of clothes & shoes in my backpack last night and ran the route for the first time. It went decently but I’d like to know how to make it more sustainable especially since I’ve considered continuing that when I move back to my original store in a couple of months.

The route is 5 miles, transitioning from suburban shopping plazas to a highway to the inner city, if that helps.
