Cup sizes (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by lockjawexotics77
Howdy new barista here my second week of training and the dam cup sizes keep messing me up any tips or tricks to help me remember??

It’s seems hard at first, but after enough time it will become second nature :) So many things click into place after a few weeks. You’ll get there!

dont be afraid to grab two cups and compare. grande and venti cups have the same size diameter top(where the lid goes) and when im restocking i cant tell the difference wo comparing their length

That’s called using your eyes + brain lmao. The definition of using your brain combined with your senses.

Cold cups have the size in ounces printed on the bottom (12-T, 16-G, 24-V, 30Tr). For hot cups the bottom has a serial number printed. The first character in that is the size (so S, T, G, V) but keep in mind sometimes the G for grande looks like a 6 sometimes.

Just don’t get caught up in the verbiage either. Small (tall) medium( grande) and large (venti). Occasionally I get the “I want a regular size” and I just taught myself to default to medium/grande.

You got this! You’re learning a new skill! It takes time. :)

Tbh there really isn’t a trick, you just practice and it clicks.

Hot: short (extra small, 8oz), tall (small, 12 oz), grande (medium, 16 oz), venti (large, 20 oz)

Cold: tall (small, 12 oz), grande (medium, 16 oz), venti (large, 26 oz -notice the different in volume from venti hot), and Trenta (extra large, 30 oz)

I guess you could make like 6 flash cards but honestly just keep working on bar and it’ll take you like 5 min to learn

My trainer gave me cups marked with the shots / pumps w a Sharpie. I took them home and lived with them for a while. May sound silly but it worked.

That’s exactly what I think too

What part of it are you having trouble with? (Genuinely asking, I just reread that and noticed that it could come off as rude if read wrong)
lockjawexotics77 [OP] 3 points 1y ago
Physically identifying the cup sizes Grande and tall look the same to me
Ristrettooo 5 points 1y ago
For the iced cups, you can look on the bottom. The tall cup has a 12 on it and the grande cup has a 16. For hot cups, try comparing them to the size of a sleeve or straw to see which one is bigger
StrawberryAlarmclck 2 points 1y ago
The hot cups have their oz size on the bottom inside rim too, it's just a lot smaller.

I think if you use your eyes and brain, that’d be helpful

we all love a splash of abelism in our requests for help
Weekly-Name-5112 3 points 1y ago
While the comment you responded to is quite rude how is it abelism? OP never stated they were disabled so its kinda weird that you're insinuating that they are :/
Popperz4Brekkie -7 points 1y ago
Most people living have brains
greenChainsaws 0 points 1y ago
nope, still an L. ignoring the abelism part doesnt make it go away
Popperz4Brekkie -1 points 1y ago
So you’re assuming this person is disabled? That’s kinda messed up.
