Transfer Troubles (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by greenbeanfridge
I work at a store almost an hour from my house. I was going to school in the area at the time I started at the bux so it made sense. Now I’m done with school, and no one at my store is able to work more than 20 hours a week, and gas in my area is close to $5 a gallon. I love my coworkers and I love love love my manager, I simply cannot afford to stay.

I’ve applied to approx. 10 locations closer to home, only three have replied. 2 straight up declined to interview. One sent me one email and then never again. I’m trying to do the leg work on my own before getting my SM involved just because I know she has a lot going on & don’t want to add more stress. I knew it was going to be difficult trying to switch stores/districts during the labor cuts, but I didn’t think it would be this bad? I have no write ups, I just got partner of the quarter, I’m never late, availability is open. I don’t understand what I’m doing wrong.

My current SM said Id have better luck going into the potential transfer stores as a customer, but then I have to spend money at Starbucks, which is not something I really want to do when I can hardly afford to human as it is.

I phantomed at the stores I was interested in transferring to. I then continually dropped how I want shifts and I live so close to here that I would love to phantomed more. Then casually throw in the word transferring every once in a while until the SM or ASM brings it up to me. Make it seem like the transfer was their idea. Classic tactic and I’ve transferred about 3 times now using this method 😎

My store has closed a few times for covid, one being over a week long & during that time I asked if I’d be able to work at one closer to home and was told I had to stay in district /: My district covers a very populated area so it’d probably be easy to transfer within, but I’m trying to escape lol

Who told you that you had to stay in the district? There’s no official Starbucks policy that states you can’t phantom or transfer outside of it. Technically they reject your transfer if they are desperate for partners which is exactly what it sounds like. Perhaps since the world seems slightly more relaxed regarding the pandemic compared to two years ago, perhaps attempting to transfer of phantom outside your district might be an option to employ the aforementioned strategy.
