No one at my new store shakes any shaken drink and it’s so annoying(self.starbucksbaristas)

You can taste the difference in most drinks. Argue what you want but I can taste the difference in ever drink I’ve tried that’s meant to be shaken. I guess they can get away with it with some drinks but with others it needs mixed and it literally looks rancid. Pink drinks and dragon drinks look so gross- the coconut milk doesn’t mix and looks curdled. And I’m stuck in drive through window all shift every shift because im a transfer and I’m the one who gets yelled at when the drinks look disgusting- all my fellow baristas just get mad and say it’s a waste of time to shake it. They already move stupidly slow for every drink they make - then 7 seconds it takes to shake isn’t gonna change anything when the average window time is already 2 fucking minutes because this store is incompetent.

Bring this up to your ssv. By not shaking drinks people are not upholding Starbucks missions and values.
It’s a big deal… quality shouldn’t be sacrificed for speed, it’s possible to have both. (I’m a ssv at a drive thru store and our times are in the low forties every week)

That’s the thing - they do it too. And my manager. No one cares about Starbucks quality except for me. And I never get to bar because I’m the transfer they lazily throw in window to take the brunt of their crap work

At that point I’d bring it up to the dm. If even the manager is like that then it’s a breeding ground for being out of standard
happybowlita834 points1y ago
Definitely this! It ends up with everyone going off standards on all sorts of things not just drinks.

That must be so frustrating, I’m sorry. I would push for being moved around, too. DTR can be exhausting. ☹️

I don’t like shaking either but I definitely will shake those coconut drinks lol and most of everything else. Expect for the unsweetened teas. If it’s mobile, I don’t shake the water base refreshers.

some days it gets so busy that i won’t put g/v in the shaker, but i ALWAYS put the shaker lid on the cup and shake it until i see foam (only w refreshers). i don’t do it often but sometimes it just gets like that. it really annoys me when people don’t shake the color drinks and shaken espressos bc it’s so bad
Ordinary-Theory-82892 points1y ago
How you not gonna shake a shaken espresso. It’s literally the whole point of the drink lol
No-Pearl0001 points1y ago
so many people at my store do it. they pour the shots over ice and swirl it around and then add milk 😳
Ordinary-Theory-82891 points1y ago
Sooo they’re making lattes pretty much lol
venusiangirl1 points1y ago
I don’t like shaking either when having to solo drive and bar during late night rushes but you have to shake pink drinks and dragon drinks at the very least those are vile if they aren’t. i once went to another store and could tell my pink drink wasn’t shaken and i couldn’t even finish it.

I could say something but I’d really rather not. I’m working at a cool store last night but I def had that issue last night with a few coconut milk drinks too. But I’m a borrower partner atm and I’m really not trying to get on anyone’s bad side

The only drinks I don't shake are the refreshers and the teas. I don't taste a difference with either of them. Not shaking the coconut milk drinks though? Disgusting. Like I'm a bit of a slacker, but not that much of one
Necessary_Low9392 points1y ago
If there’s sweetener and/or lemonade in the tea u should shake it. U should shake the refreshers expect the water base one and only if it’s mobile and they’re not there. Everything else is ok
Thee_Lizard_Head2 points1y ago
It is literally part of the recipe card.
If we just pour tea and add ice to the top we're going to sip room temperature tea with pockets of cold iced tea which makes an inconsistent and poorly made (and gross) drink.
And refreshers. Putting dehydrated fruit in a room temperature liquid does not rehydrate the fruit spontaneously. We have to shake them so that when we drink it we aren't tasting nasty ass crunchy fruit.
We are literally being paid to follow proper standards and recipes.
We aren't being paid to be lazy.

We’re being paid barely over minimum wage which, to me, is being paid to be lazy lol
Thee_Lizard_Head1 points1y ago
Being paid over minimum and being provided benefits that comparable jobs do not offer should garner no laziness. It's literally part of what we signed up for when we got hired.
Faithlessness-Even3 points1y ago
Does your store not use cold water?? Like the ice cold water from the filtered tap? This might genuinely be a regional thing, but I have never once made a refresher how I make it and it turn out room temp.
You might not be paid to be lazy, but I certainly am.
Thee_Lizard_Head2 points1y ago
It's literally your job to follow standards. You signed up for it when you got hired lol.
Edit: Every store I've ever worked at in my 12+ years has had the filtered water come out at room temperature, not even close to cold so 🤷♂️
Faithlessness-Even1 points1y ago
Dude, I putting the argument about standards to the side. What do you mean your water doesn't come out of the tap cold? You don't have to give me specifics but like, where do you work? I'm genuinely curious about this. I've lived in the northern parts of the US all my life and I cannot imagine water coming out of the tap room temp?
