On this episode of how badly can a close go (cues crappy game show music)……(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by The_tired_barista
The key holder lost their key and didn’t realize until we were literally walking out the door at the end of the night. Spent the next 20 minutes calling the other shifts and was set straight to voicemail 4 times, no one was answering, had to text the SM of another store (who’s dating a shift at my store to see if they can get ahold of the shift) and ended up having to call the SM who lives over 30 minutes away, got bitched at for closing so late, and had to wait for them to get there about 50 minutes after we clocked out. I didn’t get home until almost 1 am when we were supposed to leave by 10:30 at the latest.
I hate closing. With a passion.
Now I just wait until tomorrow when I get in trouble with the shifts for calling them at midnight and I end up getting blocked by them.

Unless YOU lost the key, it's not your fault. They shouldn't be mad about that shizzle and hold it against YOU

There is a copy of the store key on the shift keys they carry around. Your shift could have just used that one and brought it back the next day.

I asked my SM about this, they say we don’t have a spare key in the building bc it’s a “safety hazard”.

I asked them three times. They said we didn’t have a spare key. My SM didn’t say we did either when I called. I will definitely check with my sm tomorrow to see if we have one for future reference

There is supposed to be one on the shift keys that the key holder carries. We use it to open the back door for trash runs. Your not supposed to take it home, but an emergency situation would likely be okay for the one night.

We have one for the back door, I just thought they were both for the back. I’ve been at my store for over 9 months and never heard we had it before.

It’s the same key for all doors in the building. At least in all the ones I’ve been at.

If I recall, you don’t need a store key to close the store

We need a key to lock the front door tho.

When I was a shift, when you closed the store you locked the door from the inside with the Allen wrench type key but perhaps not all stores are the same. The store key was just for getting inside.

At my store we have legit keys to the front and back doors. Each shift has one, and if you don’t remember it, you can’t lock the doors and are stuck at work until you get another shift up there to lock them.
