we totally care about the planet guys, have this single use piece of plastic we invented to be thrown away. (i.redd.it)

They’re banned in nyc and every customer is so fucking mad (at me) about it
annaxzhen 27 points 1y ago
SAME. Our city has a single-use plastic ban and all the customers get so angry when I tell them we don’t have it. I’m flattered that they think I control the city law, I guess?

With their idea of the reusable cups going 100% by 2030, I have little faith in the customers to keep bringing them back and imagine there will be lots of thicker plastic cups at the landfill.

I didn't even consider these (which I despise). It brings up a very valid point.

My store buys the food safe stickers. Started doing it during the shortage and have continued, cause they're wildly poplar.
We still have some of these in case we run out or people don't want the sticker.
L5-3000 [OP] 8 points 1y ago
Is this something they bring in or is an option to order in marketplace?
aee78 6 points 1y ago
Cruzin Cap is the brand.
philosopher_cat_lady 7 points 1y ago
I didn't realize they were food safe! That's good to know. Another Starbucks was using them during the pandemic and I was like, 'Where did they get these?'
Fearless_While_9824 3 points 1y ago
same! love the stickers!
ihateyousoymatcha 24 points 1y ago
We ordered the sticker stoppers for delivery (Uber Eats) orders and often just use those.

Not a ton better but it's not plastic
bailter_space 12 points 1y ago
Tiny paper circles are way better than those clunky plastic sticks
Charimia 17 points 1y ago
My old store was still claiming to recycle and had “we recycle! ♻️“ stickers up but I happen to know every bag of trash from that store went straight to the trash bin. We didn’t even recycle the boxes!
I get that there are even issues with recycling as an alternative to reducing, but lying about doing the bare minimum is low.

Edit: Also! Why are the stoppers so long? You could literally just reduce the amount of plastic in those while keeping the cute little branding on the top by shortening the stopper post to a nub.
aspiringgrandpa 14 points 1y ago
our store got rid of those we use the stickers now

what’s funny is that we still use disposable cups that get thrown in the garbage, and anything “biodegradable” that gets thrown in the trash doesn’t actually biodegrade, it just adds to landfill
borrowedurmumsvcard 13 points 1y ago
lmaoo have you SEEN the little baggies the dried fruit comes in
[deleted] 13 points 1y ago
Made to be thrown away in our drive thru no less
Bhaisaab86 8 points 1y ago
Don’t forget the shear amount of plastic waste from all the individually wrapped food items.
rudebii 8 points 1y ago
I worked before these existed, and we did all sorts of things like put masking tape over the sip hole. At customer insistence , even after explaining it wasn’t probably sanitary. They never cared.
crzyshiba 7 points 1y ago
Our customers love to throw them out everywhere on our patio and around the store so we have to constantly clean it up especially when our DM sees them he goes nuts
Shetlips420 6 points 1y ago
if starbucks makes millions of dollars, why can’t we have bamboo stoppers?
Kryrieonn 5 points 1y ago
Honestly Starbucks should just invest in those lids with covers you can pull back and save everyone the trouble. I get yelled at when there isn't a stopper and I get yelled at when there is one. People just take them out lick the whipped cream/foam off of them, and toss it out their window at the drive 🙃
notcaffeinewitch 2 points 1y ago
the stoppers are banned here in new york! and a lot of people are mad about it 😬
accountedthrowaway5 2 points 1y ago
where im at, we don’t have those anymore. we just give customers straws or circular stickers because we no longer use the green things
Improvmomolyfe 1 points 1y ago
If we don’t get rid of them, the least we can do is get rid of the extra stirrer part
Necessary_Low939 1 points 1y ago
Why don’t they just create a closable lid lol
nothereforit97 1 points 1y ago
I get irrationally angry when I get these when I never asked for them. They always get stuck in the crevices of my car for months.
livingfortheliquid 1 points 1y ago
As a customer. I fucking hate those. I try to tell them no stopper but end up getting one. I think we should mail them all to Starbucks headquarters.
happybowlita83 1 points 1y ago
I hate how they always ask for one just to remove it when they place the drink on the holder juat throw it out the window....
lea-oppalove 1 points 1y ago
Outlawed in my NYC store 😌
HelenAngel 1 points 1y ago
Real question- can these be recycled in a recycle bin if washed off?
safierce1789 0 points 1y ago
My abuela used to take those and use them as bookmarks 😭 so yeah; they’re reusable lmao
mypoopoosmelly69 0 points 1y ago
yall still have the green stoppers? apparently my store stopped using those 2 years ago…
notrachelmar 0 points 1y ago
we don’t really put them in hot drinks anymore. only water based ones like brewed coffee, hot tea, and americanos. i was told it’s the new standard but who knows. my dad is an americano drinker and he started reusing them once we had shortages
