I’ve noticed every other week I seem to have better hours. It alternates. Mine aren’t exactly terrible but it varies

It’s pretty messed up. At my store my manager is pretty considerate when it comes to scheduling. I noticed a lot of the teenagers are actually getting screwed over. They don’t seem to work more than a 5 hour shift. The adult staff (including myself with very limited availability) have longer shifts and hours no less than 20 a week. I’m available 24 hours a week and the “worst” week I’ve had was 20.5 hours. I know it’s really unfair.

Honestly thats fair imo. Teenagers USUALLY are not having bills to pay, and if their hours are cut they won't be at risk of having to become homeless etc. If a teenager does have significant bills to pay because of family circumstances then they should let their manager know. So I can appreciate what your manager is doing personally

Honestly she’s one of the best managers I’ve ever had if not the best. Night crew/ teenagers have had a pretty noticeable cut. I don’t think we’ve lost anyone in the 6 months I’ve been with the store but we did get a lot of new people since I’ve started so I’m one of the more experienced baristas now. If we lost our SM I’d probably leave and I’d follow her if she transferred to another store.

>Like what's the point, they're hiring so many ppl yet trying to get people to quit or lose benefits.

I mean that's exactly the point. Hire a bunch of people, then you can still run your store without having to give benefits to as many employees, and for basically the same cost in wages. The only line is profit, regardless if us peasants have to suffer for it.

Make sure you talk to your SM about your needed hours. Our SM told us that she needed to know how many hours partners needed and would schedule them accordingly. That she was told SM’s needed to balance the business needs and the partner’s needs. But also make sure you have your availability updated in the system. If that doesn’t do anything, then I would look for a transfer and let your manager know you can’t continue to work with so little hours. Trust me, no manager wants to go through hiring and training a new person.
