Fuck all that, soooooo happy Im not a barista. Fuck you Starbucks on University Ave in las cruces New Mexico. We’re not truly “partners” as they try to brainwash us with.
throwaway62919six 53 points 1y ago
Fuck you Starbucks on University Ave in Las Cruces New Mexico also
crunchycookie28 24 points 1y ago
And if they try to tell you anything fucking different they’re liars and fucking snakes. FUCK YOU (Starbucks on university Ave in las cruces New Mexico)
LZARDKING 79 points 1y ago
My last paycheck was $385! That’s barely enough to cover one bill 🙃
CalDoesMaths 31 points 1y ago
Bruh my last paycheck was barley over $100
tras529 67 points 1y ago
Hey, partners! I work at one of the Starbucks in Chicago that just filed to unionize! We have also had terrible hour cuts and I was directed to a law firm in Seattle who is putting together a lawsuit against Starbucks for these massive hour cuts country wide. For anyone interested in the info feel free to reach out and I could put you in touch! Their main goal is to get representation from every state!

I have 17 hours this week, I’m used to 35-38 🥲 Tomorrow I’m only scheduled for 2 hours
yuriijuma 28 points 1y ago
2???? wtf was the point
Snowbunny_02 14 points 1y ago
I thought they couldn’t schedules anything below 3?
ccspence 5 points 1y ago
I’m putting up the order that we get on Tuesday night

Snowbunny_02 2 points 1y ago
Oh okay that makes more since
KindheartednessNo401 3 points 1y ago
I’m working 2.5 hours tomorrow. It’s truly ridiculous
An-Unnamed-Star 2 points 1y ago
I got scheduled for two a day this week as week....at this point that's not even worth the gas money to drive the half hour
jazzysoranio 50 points 1y ago
They’ve been cutting hours everywhere. And I’m sure they’re still ALSO using the “labor shortage” as a convenient excuse. All the stores in my area are still closing early, BUT baristas aren’t getting hours. And yet I’m still hearing all this nonsense about how “nobody wants to work.”
An-Unnamed-Star 11 points 1y ago
Yes it's very contradictory.....but I've heard that managers are only allowed to schedule a certain amount of hours a week based on their drive times/amount of money they make per hour.....if you don't make it through enough customers toy don't get more labor, even though more labor would mean faster drive times
jazzysoranio 8 points 1y ago
Oh, that’s always been the case. But if they’re always cycling through managers then they can keep changing how much labor is allocated without managers realizing that they keep giving you fewer and fewer labor hours but still expecting more and more productivity. I’ve been with the company for over ten years and I’ve just watched our sales double and triple but our labor is basically the same as it was 6 or 7 years ago. We’re all just doing double and triple work because what are we gonna do about it? Quit? Oh, yeah, that’s exactly what’s happening. But people keep saying it’s because we’re “lazy.”
Popperz4Brekkie 3 points 1y ago
Hell yes. We have been squeezed. I was a store manager and managed 5 stores in 10 years. They kept us rotating even if we didn’t quit. They try to make ‘earner labor’ some sort of mystical calculation. But you’re right… the earned and forecasted labor hours each week never went up, even with 20% year over year sales growth.
jazzysoranio 3 points 1y ago
Yeah, our store went from having two hours of peak time in the morning to having round the clock peak from open till close. But our labor has only marginally increased. I know you’re not supposed to take pictures of the schedules but I still have pics of the schedule and DCR from ten years ago and it’s infuriating to see how they look almost the same.
SeparateAd3473 46 points 1y ago
That’s like one shift to me… I’d jump ship! Save yourself.
pastelrose7 38 points 1y ago
I got 9 hours this week :)
AndrewtheRey 1 points 1y ago
How are things in your store? Are you guys barely holding it together because of the hour cuts? I would imagine stores aren’t just losing all of their business at once
pastelrose7 1 points 1y ago
Yeah, we're holding on by a thread. We have 30 staff members, but several people are in isolation because something's going around at work - we're all getting negative covid tests but a bunch of people are sick. We only have 4 shift supervisors but one is off for three days and another one is likely gonna end up needing to take time off. Even with the hour cuts, we're scrambling to find people to cover shifts for people who can't work right now.
RubySapphireSage 35 points 1y ago
Asked my managers for extra hours because I couldn’t survive on these , she told me she was using her own hours for partners , grateful but the hour cutting with Starbucks has been happening for months and I can’t do it anymore .. second job here I come
CalDoesMaths 8 points 1y ago
Felt this. My sm is scheduling herself at like 10hr a week to just come in and do payroll, create a schedule, and leave for us but like it’s ridiculous it’s even come to that. I’ve been sending that resume out
RubySapphireSage 1 points 1y ago
Same some partners hours are going up but this must be a sign to leave this h_e-l/l .

Multihued_Minutiae 8 points 1y ago
Contact your utility provider (or landlord) to mention the foreseen drop in income. Maybe take a payroll advance and jump on smagaudet's Facebook group ASAP.
Foreign_Service3102 10 points 1y ago
I'm 17 and my manager gives me more hours than some of my adult coworkers half the time
jcduckduck 3 points 1y ago
Lmao I’m 22 with a horde of bills and most of the high schoolers get way more hours than us 💀
happybowlita83 10 points 1y ago
30 hours open availability is pretty limited 😬 hopefully you can find shifts to cover
emmgibbzz6669 [OP] 13 points 1y ago
i actually have 37 hours open availability, i am also in college and working an unpaid internship. i was getting 20 hours a week up until a week ago. id be nice if i was able to survive with a single job
happybowlita83 -1 points 1y ago
Still very limited, but it makes sense why your availabilityia so limited. Most shifts given to students with very little availability are sadly the first ones that tend to get cut because they're "extra coverage" if they cut out 1 or 2 partners out of the days play it tends to be the ones that get shorter shifts. Sometimes SMs will alternate the amount of hours they give to SSV when things are like this so if someone else took 1 or 2 of your shifts that week you can probably try asking your SM to alternate you for the week after until things get back to normal.
WesternArtichoke5288 12 points 1y ago
I have 87 hour availability and got 14.5 hours this week lmaooo
happybowlita83 0 points 1y ago
Yikes that's bad I have 80 hours availability and have not been scheduled anything under 20 hours. Others did go from 35ish hours to 20ish for the month but our SM let us know our hours have already started picking back up to normal and will keep doing so steadily and our only small set back is the upcoming spring break. I think our SM focused on distributing hours evenly and all partners who need to be benefits eligible for ASU and such didn't go under 20 hours.
CS3883 4 points 1y ago
Yeah just because you can work x y and z and only that doesn't mean you will always get scheduled those shifts
CalDoesMaths 1 points 1y ago
Me: fully open availability and scheduled less than 20hrs when I ask for at least 30/35
smagaudet 8 points 1y ago
Best thing you can do for yourself is ask other stores if they need shifts covered. I’ve also heard there’s Facebook groups you can join for Starbucks where people from different stores in your area can posts shifts. Ended up doing this myself & transferred to a store where I can actually make a living. Hope this helps, much love💚

Hillyskate 5 points 1y ago

UNIONIZE
VentiSARnoH20 3 points 1y ago
currently on maternity leave 🙃 but up until the day I gave birth I was scheduled 24 hrs. back to my other job i go
happybowlita83 1 points 1y ago
Did they not let you use your sick pay or vacation pay for the 2 extra weeks before your due date? I'm planning on doing that, but we'll see what sedgwick says.
VentiSARnoH20 2 points 1y ago
I had used most of my vacation in prior months. I had complications in January (that’s how I found out/used some sick pay). Was due mid March but ended up getting admitted on February 28. Idk but Sedgwicks reply time is pretty quick/ hope you get a good representative😌
happybowlita83 2 points 1y ago
Thanks I hope so! Havent had complications yet, but I haven't really seen my dr. Since week 9 and im not seeing one til week 25 so we'll see what happens from then so I can submit my leave paperwork.
Jennapea98 2 points 1y ago
I have a question for you all…. My hours were cut from 27 to 21. I’m bummed but thankful it won’t cause me to lose my health insurance. What are you all doing if you have health insurance thru bux? I would think they have to give you 20 hours to maintain it. I’ve been mad about the cuts but these posts I’m floored people are getting 1/2 what I am ☠️
emmgibbzz6669 [OP] 2 points 1y ago
i don’t have health insurance but i have vision and dental and i’m going to lose it next audit, i would have to work around 40 hours a week to keep it at this point and i can’t do that :( i’m making all my appointments before i lose it
Jennapea98 1 points 1y ago
That is total bullshit. I’m really sorry to hear that. I haven’t been happy my hours have been cut but thankful I at least get the minimum to keep my insurance. It should be mandatory we all get enough for the benefits 🤬
AndrewtheRey 2 points 1y ago
I am currently refusing to patronize Starbucks because of this. Sure, they will still make money from other customers, but in this real estate market with this level of inflation, this is literally starving their workers. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a mass walkout/quitting event. Workers are finite
Competitive-Meet 2 points 1y ago
You were paying rent before ? Where you at 😭 Cali prices to high
Demonic_Witch666 2 points 1y ago
My store is about to get a renovation so the stores I said I could get borrowed to haven't scheduled me so I'm relying on people that need shifts to be covered atm, so I have 21 this week but next week I have 0 then 4 hours
mushmushmushmus 2 points 1y ago
my manager literally scheduled me for 3 hours one week… when it come down to it most of my hours are just from picking up shifts from my partners and nearby stores
impasse602 2 points 1y ago
I heard from a shift its because of the stores that are Unionizing that theyre trying to strike back
latuacantante90 2 points 1y ago
If that’s the case that is bs and I can see more stores unionizing due to these labor cuts
[deleted] 2 points 1y ago

nonogender 1 points 1y ago
even as a shift, when we had 6 shifts i got half the hours im used to, and i only now have more hours bc 3 shifts quit/left within a few weeks
ringronies 1 points 1y ago
Genuine question in the midst of this labor cut: Do manager hours count for labor? 🤔
forgetful_fairy 1 points 1y ago
I’m a shift and was burnt out working 40 hours, so I asked for 30. This week I’m scheduled TWENTY plus a one hour shift meeting. i’m so frustrated and there’s literally nothing anyone can do about it
persona-2 1 points 1y ago
I hate seeing all this online. I couldn’t imagine being in a store that is doing that. My SM talks about labor being tight and not staying over even if we are busy, but that’s kinda it. The shifts get 30+ and almost all the baristas are at 20-24 ish. A couple people have less, but they are minors or only work weekends. I asked for more hours and my SM sent me open shifts at the stores within like 10 minutes of us to see if I wanted to pick anything up. Like this is how it’s supposed to work, right? I feel like all I read online is horror stories. I don’t want to land in a store like that.
baristakurt 1 points 1y ago
I'm so sorry to my fellow baristas that are going through this. I have always wanted to work at a corporate store, but now I am grateful that I work for a licensed store.
marvelmanda 1 points 1y ago
I am finally getting my usual hours after quitting school so that I could get more hours to pay my rent.
EmoSlut1029 1 points 1y ago
im almost 17 so ik i dont need as many hours as people who have to pay rent and phone bills etc, but i still need to save up for a car and college and i cant do that when i make <$250 every other week
VirtualEntrepreneur8 1 points 1y ago
Is this not against fair work week??
cheeercamp 1 points 1y ago
I’m in Western WA, and my store has filed to unionise. Our ballots go out on the 8th. If you’re in the PNW and you think your store is pro-union, hmu!
emmgibbzz6669 [OP] 2 points 1y ago
i am on the east coast but we have already filed!
animallive 1 points 1y ago
question for us partners - do y’all not have guaranteed labor hours written into your contracts?
Top_Bend 1 points 1y ago
This is exactly why I had to quit. They removed 5 shift from my schedule without a word to me. And as a full time employee who was already only getting 20 hours a week, that was it. Fuck Cheshire Starbucks
femalehomosapien18 1 points 1y ago
Please see if you can apply for food stamps, partial unemployment etc etc. I’m so sorry this is happening or if you want use vacation time to supplement your pay. I know you shouldn’t have to do any of this though
AerieLeading6238 1 points 1y ago
Wait omg that’s my normal <3 and I begged for more hours and all I got was “sorry. There’s no more hours”

Regular-Reveal8133 1 points 1y ago
talked to my ASM 3 times about my schedule, every time he said he would change it and instead he didn’t change a single thing. when i called him out on it he asked me to come in 30 minutes early to talk about it and told me there was an hour shortage and that every time people message him about the schedule he feels bad. wasted my fucking time over something that could’ve been a text. i would’ve rather just been on the floor. i just keep accidentally coming in early and accidentally staying late bc it’s all i can do.
xphyria 1 points 1y ago
That union keeps looking better and better
SurfPopcorn 1 points 1y ago
Ugh... I hate when I keep hearing and seeing this. The new quarter starts soon, so hopefully more hours soon?
maddawgg710 1 points 1y ago
I’m picking up shifts just to be okay😢 I’ll be at my Starbucks 7 days this week yayyyy
agigante02 1 points 1y ago
im in a similar situation, constantly being scheduled 12-14 hrs a week but i have my availability set to 25hrs and i dont have any days that im unavailable to work so wtf starbucks😐like how am i supposed to pay my car payments, phone, gas (which we all know has been EXPENSIVE) and lunch (bc im a cma student atm also) 5 days during the week?? not to mention my school is a 24 mile drive from my house and its 28 miles from my sbux and thats a lot of gas right there. most of the time i cant even afford to get myself anything to eat so i dont eat. now would be a great time for sbux to bring back the free bev n drink on ur days off🥲
Perfect-Leadership58 1 points 1y ago
yeah :^) i worked 12 hours last week and 19 the week before and i’m cutting it super close with bills. i’ll barely have enough left over to buy kitty litter and my dogs expensive food PLUS it’s my boyfriends birthday next week and we planned on going to kbbq but now i won’t be able to afford it
kikuuq 1 points 1y ago
Went from 30+ hrs a week, now to this week which is just 8. Next week is only 4 :) I managed to pick up an extra 9 hrs at other stores for the 4 hr week but jfc
Puddle_Duck88 1 points 1y ago
I worked 27.5 hours last week and I’m part time, just working to get a little extra spending money and free food/drinks lol. If I actually needed a job to pay bills I’d leave and find something that pays better
happybowlita83 1 points 1y ago
That's me too, I don't want to depend on my SOs paycheck alone because you never know what can happen and I like working as a barista, but if the need ever came for me to work 40 hours to make ends meet I'd definitely leave sbux for something more dependable or work very hard to promote within the company, but still I'm sure my best option would be a full-time job.
Puddle_Duck88 2 points 1y ago
I don’t have bills or anything because our roommate pays most of our mortgage, SO makes good money, and I get as much in child support as I make at work. So I have a lot of my income going into my Roth IRA for stocks/dividends and I save half of the rest and spend half. I’ll be able to retire before I’m 40 and live off my stock portfolio and Starbucks helps a lot with that

things are getting better, i promise! the hour cuts are almost over but i understand if you need to find another job bc for someone who has bills, this is unacceptable
gabby24681 17 points 1y ago
Did it really go on this long last year? I keep freaking out because I can’t tell if this is new bad or bad like always
notrachelmar 15 points 1y ago
it wasn’t as severe but it’s happened every year since i’ve been here (2016). it’s a lot more strict this time but i have faith that things will go back to normal soon
mekayla96 10 points 1y ago
My sm told me things will be back to normal soon. But it’s ridiculous that Starbucks as a company expects their employees to be ok with such drastic hour cuts every year. That’s …. Not ok lol
notrachelmar 3 points 1y ago
it’s the slowest season at starbucks- post holidays and before the summer. i agree that they can definitely afford to keep our hours up but this is just what happens every year and i doubt it’s going to change
Any-Area8729 1 points 1y ago
Especially right after the holidays when most are trying to catch up with bills etc.
veganwifey 14 points 1y ago
It’s never been this bad before. This is totally retaliation for union efforts. In my six years there have been cuts but never this extreme or for so many months
gabby24681 2 points 1y ago
Thank you I thought I was going crazy. Everyone just keeps saying “…every year it’ll get better etc” and I was like I don’t think so 👀
veganwifey 2 points 1y ago
It will get better as things pick up for summer, but truly this is the worst experience I personally have had as far as hourly cuts
CalDoesMaths 4 points 1y ago
Not sure why you’re downvoted. It sucks ass but it does happen every year, even though sadly it’s worse and worse every year. I gotta remind myself the a LOT of current partners weren’t apart of sbux pre pandemic. Crazy it’s going into year 3

To be clear: it’s totally bullshit and this multi-billion dollar, Fortune 500 company can afford to pay their staff regardless of bad sales for a tiny period of the year, and I am one of the many looking for a new/second job, but I do expect to see my hours return if I haven’t left in the next few months.
notrachelmar 3 points 1y ago
thank you! every time i comment on a post about that this isn’t anything new, i get downvoted like crazy. yeah it sucks and starbucks could afford it but this isn’t anything new
Vincent_Cromwell27 -1 points 1y ago
Starbucks guidelines asks for three times open availability per hours wanted, so for 30 hours you should have 90 flexible hours. Still sucks and is bs but what can you do with a corporation.

Edit: funny how I point out how I think that it’s dumb yet people are so quick to downvote 😂
