It makes sense. Caffeine is a stimulant and when you’re in taking it constantly, our bodies get used to it. Once you wean off for awhile and get back into it, it could cause shock. Also I think as we age, our bodies process it differently. My mom used to drink white mochas and she noticed the year before she stopped altogether, she had the same reactions you’re having. So she now sticks to herbal teas.
Basically, you’re not alone and it sounds normal :)

I started at Sbux a few years ago with no coffee or espresso drinking. Opening at 5am, i soon escalated to 8 shots a day for the first year, before updosing was a thing. Now i have a single cup of coffee almost every morning and a quad shot if i didnt sleep well. Thats my caffeine story

You’re not alone! I LIVED for my shot of espresso at the beginning of my shift, and then another half way through, and then a 6-shot venti whatever the hell with pumps of sugar to carry me through the rest of my day. Now I can’t have even the slightest bit. I can do decaf, but if the shots go into the shotglass with caffeinated shot residue, I get a panic attack. I figured this out by trial and error. If my decaf shots pour straight into the cup I’m fine. But yeah I feel you. I drink my decaf americanos and pretend it’s real coffee. I miss blonde shots/coffee the most :(

i’ve worked at starbucks for a little over three years and had to cut out caffeine completely because of the effect it has on me. i noticed it a few months ago after having caffeine daily for years. it seemed to come up kinda randomly too and i’m not sure why. but here i am now, spending the majority of my days in a coffee shop with a coffee plant tattooed on my arm and i can’t even drink the stuff
