I literally can't stand my SM. Not to toot my own horn, but I am one of two or three baristas in the morning that can actually handle either bar at peak. This was such a back handed comment it makes me loath my SM even more and makes my blood boil.
\-side note: I am not proud of being good at bar, I am forced to be on bar day in and day out so that we can keep our "times down", some days I just want to be on DTO or warming, but can't :(

He's usually on the floor "observing", even when we're running around with our heads cut off. He literally critiques everyone behind their back and will never tell you to your face what you're doing wrong, but expects you to be perfect. I'd much rather him not say anything to me.

Yeah that’s a tough one. I am constantly on the floor with my partners usually on Drive Bar or DTO, setting the example for the positions so that when I coach they know where I am coming from. Observe and coach positions are rare - usually only high capacity stores can allow their SM to occupy that role.
Sounds to me like you’re also hateful, which doesn’t really make anyone sympathetic. He’s doing his job (albeit not to your standards), and critiquing your job. Maybe give him some honest and respectful feedback and see what he does with it, he might not even know that’s how you view him. Good luck partner!

I guess I could sound hateful, but when this is literally the worst job you ever had with the absolute worst manager you have ever had in the 15 years you have been working, yeah you could say I am hateful. I don't need to tell you my back story as to why I stay, but I am here, doing my job day in and day out and he gives me this backhanded comment, yeah it's going to rub me the wrong way.
