Am I in the wrong with this review? (explanation in comments)(i.redd.it)

The key phrase they use is “instead of offering to rectify”. They expected you to read their mind or hear the complaint in their “question”. They didn’t actually tell you something was wrong, they asked you a question and you answered. This is a covert Karen, and possibly the most dangerous of them all. You did the right thing.
sydneypaul17 [OP]67 points1y ago
fear the covert karen for she is the leader of all the karens
TashinaGray2210 points1y ago
Definitely one I’d say likes to complain so she can get a free drink 🙄😓
sydneypaul17 [OP]172 points1y ago
this woman ordered two of these drinks on a busy weekend. she had already been waiting a while, so when her drinks came out, i was focused on getting them out asap. i handed them off and she asked me why they were so light. they weren’t abnormally light (like they can be if they aren’t shaken well and the barista just fills it up w milk) so i explained that shaken espressos come with a standard amount of shots, are shaken with ice and topped off with milk. she didn’t question this or ask for a remake, but later left this review.. am i in the wrong? if she had asked for a remake or been more obviously dissatisfied i would have remade it. if i gave everyone who questioned any part of their drink a remake, every other customer would get one because people love complaining.
anyways this is coming from a perfectionist who hates the idea that this disgruntled lady had her day “ruined” (🥴) because of me (?) did i do something wrong or is she just a karen?
muddywun132 points1y ago
Ohh I thought she was the one posting this I was down voting so fast 😆
sydneypaul17 [OP]52 points1y ago
lollll i probably could have phrased it better it’s been a long day 😅
iqueefkief15 points1y ago
you werent wrong at all
cookiemonstah878 points1y ago
I get a lot of "is this normal?" questions. Sometimes it's something that was actually done wrong and we offer to remake the drink without further conversation, but usually yes, it's normal. Like the customer I had today who ordered a cappuccino and then asked why the cup felt so empty. They took off the lid and were surprised to see it was full, but really light weight. They asked me if that's normal and said they've never had a cappuccino before, they were expecting a hot version of a frappuccino. I politely explained what a cappuccino is, and suggested if they want the hot version of a frappiccino, they could order a flavored hot latte or hot mocha, or if they're looking for the flavor of a specific frappuccino, they could even tell the person taking their order exactly that. They said "oh, ok! Thanks!" And took the cappuccino and left. I'm half expecting them to leave a review like this.
felinefireghost2 points1y ago
Hot version of a Frappuccino Lolol.
Able-Fudge78552 points1y ago
That how you know that starbucks isn’t a real coffee shop lol
philosopher_cat_lady8 points1y ago
How much milk did you put? It should only be a splash. Shaken espressos are really difficult because I find that if you don't put extra ice you won't have enough liquid. Even then I still have to sometimes put some more ice after shaking.
Sirmarchboy2216 points1y ago
Didn't this get changed via weekly update that you fill it to the top with milk? That's what our manager explained it as
croissantboyy8 points1y ago
it did. they should always be topped off with the milk unless the customer wants less
philosopher_cat_lady2 points1y ago
I don't work for Starbucks anymore so this is good to know!
sydneypaul17 [OP]5 points1y ago
i wasn’t on bar i was solo drive :) since i didn’t make it i’m not sure what they did but the color looked standard to me
philosopher_cat_lady1 points1y ago
So you're definitely not in the wrong. This woman expected you to read her mind
P_2_P3 points1y ago
The woman comes in the other day and orders a matcha venti matcha no ice. And she goes “make sure it doesn’t look so light.” I go, you’re wanting extra milk so it’s gonna be a little light. She replies, “what extra milk, I just don’t want ice.” I say, I understand. But would you prefer the room or do you want us to top of the drink with more milk. She goes “yeah just fill the cup.” I finish with so extra milk, so it’s gonna be a little lighter than normal.
I ended up giving her like extra heaping spoonfuls if matcha.
Please know what you’re ordering when you’re ordering it!!!
RavenMcG31 points1y ago
Just let it run over back. Some people are just not happy unless they make life miserable for everyone. Besides think of it this way, they are addicts and we have the supply, they can calm down or just not get coffee from us.
muddywun35 points1y ago
when they say “I’m never coming here again 😡” oh nooo you poor thing! you’re gonna have to get your sugar fix somewhere else! so inconvenient for you!! this informations is gonna keep me up at night fr🥺😢
sydneypaul17 [OP]31 points1y ago
yesss whenever people yell at me they always say “i will never be coming back to your establishment again 🤬🤬” okay and? i’m still getting paid $12 an hour whether you come here or not kevin.
aspiringgrandpa14 points1y ago
like i always wanna say “thank fucking god”
mama_bibi2 points1y ago
I once said sounds good to me. I'm genuinely surprised I didn't get a call that someone complained about me. Some days I just get tired of being nice and still having someone take their miserable life out on me over some liquid
PotentialCranberry4023 points1y ago
They always come back. I wish they'd keep to their promise of boycotting so I didn't have to keep giving the same 3 people free drinks everytime they come after their "promise", but they always do. Some people can't be appeased and the corporate opinion of "the customer is always right" loses us so much time and money.
Unicorn_Warrior124825 points1y ago
I have a guy check his coffee every morning to see if it’s steaming. Like, takes the lid off, hold it up to eye level. He says, you just expect it to be a certain way and when it’s not…
I’m like bro. I just brewed that coffee. It’s burning my hand through the cup. It’s fine.
sydneypaul17 [OP]19 points1y ago
LITERALLY. they can never just trust that the person who WORKS THERE knows what they’re talking about 😭
TashinaGray225 points1y ago
Omg one guy who comes in a lot will dip his finger in his “no foam” drink then get pissed off at the consistency of the steamed milk lol I offered to remake it once and he just drove off
Unicorn_Warrior12482 points1y ago
Tf is wrong with people 😂
FLMFGGT11 points1y ago
This is rude
Ok-Mycologist901110 points1y ago
happened to me too. I was solo bar and had a ton of drinks. The lady’s foam went down bc she let it sit then she complained and I told her when the foam settles it creates room. Anyway she than slammed it on the counter and said “This is disgusting!!” i offered more oatmilk to top it off and she rolled her eyes and told me i was ridiculous and walked out. Some people can’t be pleased man🤣
cookiemonstah876 points1y ago
It also doesn't help that most people don't actually know what they're ordering. Like all the people asking for an extra splash of milk in their lattes
felinefireghost1 points1y ago
Had a lady order a chai latte with “two shots of creamer.” My lead was taking the order and over the headset I said to him “so a breve chai?” And he was like yeah what the hell just make it breve. Customer was satisfied with it.
When they don’t know what they want we usually make the executive decision for them. No foam cappuccino? Cool you’re getting a latte. Grande caramel macchiato with no caramel drizzle? Gotchu- one 3 pump vanilla latte with affogato shots coming right up. Not gonna spend time educating you on your own order, especially when you’re probably gonna tell me I’m wrong! lol
Have to say though, if they ask and are genuinely curious, I love explaining to them how we make their drinks. I appreciate the responsible consumer. But regarding the statements above, well, you guys all know the type I’m talking about lol.
mrcupcake189 points1y ago
You just answered her damn question wtf? You know when we fix drinks? If you tell us something is not to your liking and we make right yah no sense having ass Karen ಠ_ಠ
Necessary_Low9398 points1y ago
She should asked for something else if she didn’t like the drink. But it’s cool that she ain’t coming here again, hopefully she just doesn’t go to another Starbucks in general
impasse6027 points1y ago
The drink is gross anyway and this lady thinks that her saying she wont order the drink again is gonna hurt us? Nah!!
sydneypaul17 [OP]4 points1y ago
fr i hate making them so she would be doing me a favor
wok3less7 points1y ago
tbh i think it all depends on how you phrased it. huge pet peeve of mine when baristas are just like “yeah thats how it is sorry bye” because it immediately pisses the customer off. u gotta psychology that shi and if you said something like “thats the standard amount, it may have just gotten mixed up, is that okay?” then i think youre totally in the right
kittycattss6 points1y ago
It's always the shaken espressos. People expect them to look just like the picture. It doesn't always turn out that way, sometimes they get mixed a little together. I have to remake those out of the most drinks.
LZARDKING6 points1y ago
If you want a remake you have to ask for it, if you’re just casually musing about how bad the drink is and it was made correctly they’ll tell you as much. It’s supposed to be very light and sweet but if you think it was just creamer you’re wrong there’s only a couple ounces of espresso in it like most lattes. Next time just make what you want known. Communicate.
ExtentAccomplished325 points1y ago
Ive been trying to pin down what the toasted vanilla tastes like and creamer on the rocks is DEFINITELY on the money! Im so sorry about your experience
sydneypaul17 [OP]8 points1y ago
it definitely is, if there’s one thing i agree with this lady on its that toasted vanilla is grossss 😓
QuietCity3332 points1y ago
it tastes like a cigarette
J-cat_loves_dogs144 points1y ago
When people just expect you to know to fix their problem is annoying, but its even more annoying when they’re clearly unhappy with the drink and need if you offer to remake it they say no its fine when their face says it’s not fine.
Sassycamo394 points1y ago
I had a lady ask me why her Toasted vanilla oat milk shaken was so light in color. I replied You asked for no ice and extra oat milk
sydneypaul17 [OP]3 points1y ago
LMAOOOOOO ppl can be so dumb sometimes
Sea-River62243 points1y ago
well that’s how the drink is made, evryone complains about the shaken espresso when they don’t know the build
Party_Television_7223 points1y ago
the person who posted the review is in the wrong. baristas aren’t mind readers
mimzalot3 points1y ago
I'm hung up on "drive thru girl". Give AF about how she hated the drink.
sydneypaul17 [OP]1 points1y ago
fr that’s mostly why i internalized this review so much. i’m a human being not a robot or your “drive thru girl”
Business_Custard70562 points1y ago
But...that is what it tastes like? 😂
DannyMae2 points1y ago
F
madisonla1 points1y ago
Honestly that is how the drink is… I would’ve specified or said “ can I get a different drink instead I just really don’t like it” (I’d totally understand I’m too afraid to try it just from the smell it’s sooooo sweet)
Lost_Treat_62961 points1y ago
Anyone who's an asshole in reviews should not be a valid source of annoyance.
RubySapphireSage1 points1y ago
I understand the that’s how it comes low key it’s just oat milk and ice regardlessly , I would’ve offered a refund or remake personally . But then again I’m so sick of this job I usually just say “let us remake it once more” 😭
dcho941 points1y ago
Just move on. It's not a big deal anyway. You lost ONE customer. So what? They can take their ass to a different store and they'll STILL complain Lol There are hundreds of customers who come in and leave, this one review shouldn't make you feel upset or make you feel guilty or anything like that. Keep your chin up and continue working and be the best barista/employee you can be and let people complain as much as they want. Unless you did something wrong - that would be a different story but in this case, you didnt really do anything wrong 🤷🏻
Jena876543-1 points1y ago
You are wrong that is how the drink comes we can fix the drink if something was wrong with it but not if you just don’t like it not being rude but people have tried to scam us with that before so it is now policy to refuse those request
KenansCloud9 points1y ago
Op is not the reviewer, just so you know
sydneypaul17 [OP]1 points1y ago
yea i’m the barista i was very tired when i wrote this post so i didn’t realize it sounded as if i was the customer sorry !
