i didn’t get my breaks (self.starbucksbaristas)

i dread going to work anytime i work with my store manager. our store is a new store and i started working a little over a month ago and i love my job but my manager is so rude. i’m not sure if he’s rude to everybody but he’s always rude to me. normally when i work i get a 10 min break and then a 30 min lunch break. i went on my 10 at 10:21am, and at 10:26am, (5 mins into my break) my store manager comes up to me and tells me i’m 5 mins over on my 10, and to just turn that into my lunch break, he said i had 15 mins left. i told him i watched the time as i walked off the floor and also when i sat down (10:22pm) i texted my girlfriend and that’s how i know for sure i went on my break at 10:21pm. he told me that’ll just be my 30 min lunch break and he’ll give me my 10 later but he never did. so not only did i only get a 20 min lunch break, i didn’t get my 10. it made me really upset and i was trying to explain to him that i wasn’t 5 mins over on my break and he cut me off and told me not to worry about it :/

I may be bitter, but next time I’d loudly state that I was going on my break at -specific time- and that I was setting a timer. Before I became a SSV my manager once started timing just one person on their breaks, and granted this person would usually take 20 minute breaks, but they started timing the supervisors on their breaks. Let’s just say the timing of breaks suddenly stopped.

yesterday when he was there i showed the shift what time i was going on break. it’s still annoying.

I totally get it. There’s no trust in your store, or honor system for that matter. Makes it real hard to like your job if the people who manage it are tyrants.

luckily i never work with him. he works mornings and i normally work mid shifts so i never see him. he’s gone by the time i get there or shortly after.

Definitely contact your DM. That’s a fireable offense for your manager since he is putting the company at risk. They’ll probably end up paying you out a few hours if you tell them all the times you have missed your breaks.

Regardless it is a violation of policy at minimum and should be addressed.

Yeah in my state breaks are mandated but I think in some other states they’re “voluntarily” provided by Starbucks. Federal law in the US only mandates a lunch break.

is it? i’m in alabama, does that still apply.

Call partner resources!!! That’s a lawsuit on their hands if they don’t give proper breaks depending on the state you live in so they will feel obligated to punish your store manager

Isn’t it against the law of what he’s doing

You’re still entitled to a full break
