Coffee break. (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by CEC_22
So I recently went on my coffee break but was not eligible for the full one year.
Why was that? Well, I was in disability due to repetitive motion syndrome. For the past 10+ years I have been primary bar. Even when I was on restricted duty, I was still on bar. When I realized that going back to work full duty after surgery was not helping but hurting me, I decided to take my coffee break. Due to the LOA (leave of absence) due to disability, the months I was out were deducted from my career coffee break.
You are allowed 1 full year if you do not take any time off for 12 consecutive months prior to your coffee break.
Also, make sure you get a copy of all paperwork! My manager lost mine in the process of her being demoted so things were scary. I was able to take 6 months off and while on my coffee break I was still able to use my discount and get my weekly mark outs.
Once you have taken your FIRST coffee break after your 10th year at Starbucks, you are allowed another year off 7 years after! Please remember that you must keep employment in order to be eligible! You can’t quite then come back because then the time starts all over. Lastly, Sedgwick is also in charge of all coffee breaks! (Bummer, I know!)

Hope this helps!
If you have any questions that I know the answers to, I will advise. ✌🏽

I used my coffee break when I had my first kid. They counted my maternity leave into that time. My date to return to work was my kids 1st birthday. Surprised me a little but it still worked out well for me.
Something to add, is that I had to cash out all of my accumulated vacation hours.
