Today, as I was in the middle of peak, a regular came by and dumped the rest of his coffee into the sink next to my bar. Like REACHED OVER THE BAR to dump the rest of his coffee. I told him not to do that again and he said “well I either do that or I throw the whole drink in the trash” gave me a nasty look and walked out of the store. I hate old entitled asshole men.

Last year I had one hold his drink over my open ice bin asking for more and nearly dump it in. I slammed that shit so hard it made him jump, walked back to another station, grabbed a tall cup of ice, and slammed it on the end of the handoff without a word. No regrets.

That’s happened so many times, they go past the sneeze guards

We should have permanent squeeze guards

Every Starbucks used to have nice tall glass guards completely surrounding the bar areas so customers couldn’t touch or reach for things. Corporate deemed them “bad for connections” and got rid of them. Now customers consistently reach over for things, put their hands all over our syrup bottles/pumps. I’ve had customers dump out some of their drink in our ice bin, thinking it was a sink. Apparently Starbucks doesn’t care at all about contamination.
The “bad for connections” is the same narrative they use to make the espresso machines shorter and shorter with each new model.

What they expect us to do always contradicts each other. Customer connections and fast service speed don’t mesh well.

It’s one or the other. We can’t do both. Especially when they cut labor when we’re already short-staffed and overworked.

These people have never worked with the public and do not understand your job and the daily bullshit you have to put up with.

Tell him we double bag the trash so people can throw liquid in. Or he could dump it outside or in the bathroom sinks.
