This is what happens when starbucks doesnt staff their stores enough to have time to just scrub a dang pitcher. Only ever place importance on speedy product prep. No time for cleaning. This is corporate's fault. The labor equation is wrong.
sheep_heavenly248 points1y ago
But hey guys, just spraying off any 3d debris is fine! Hobart cleans all sins 😇
tittywhipp41 points1y ago
Lol last year's spring training 🤣🤣
toaoblake35 points1y ago
The Hobart that magically became a dishwasher instead of a sanitizer... XD
greenssv2 points1y ago
We were told not to use the Hobart on the pitchers because the temps were enough to make the plastic brittle....at least that is what they told us when the valves kept cracking and breaking.
sheep_heavenly2 points1y ago
It depends if you have the chemical sanitizer or the temperature sanitizer. If yours is a high temp, yeah. Basically no plastic, nothing with gaskets or rubber pieces unless removed, pretty much nothing in store can go in except spoons, shot glasses, milk pitchers. If it's chemical it's all fair game, but tbh the Hobart does such a shit job at cleaning you'll have to hand wash anyways to avoid the nasty buildup.
greenssv1 points1y ago
Yep.....I always hand wash. The tea refresher pitchers and the mocha chai containers do not come clean.....there is always a disgusting film...same with shot glasses and shakers.
Popperz4Brekkie29 points1y ago
Preach
Kmsss-31 points1y ago
Not necessarily.. our stores pitchers are clean.
borrowedurmumsvcard6 points1y ago
then either you have time to clean them or you have a good dishwasher. most of have neither
Kmsss-19 points1y ago
You Just dump half a packet of urnex in and let it soak for a bit. Barely scrub and rinse well. It’s not that hard. Add it to clean play once a month.
borrowedurmumsvcard15 points1y ago
“it’s not that hard” 🤡 we have 8 employees :)
Wonderful_Nightmare1 points1y ago
Must be nice. Couldn't be my store 😌
Kmsss-4 points1y ago
Go ahead and downvote me because your stores are gross.
Brief_Coat6526-125 points1y ago
It doesn’t take a whole lot of staff to scrub something properly. This is just lazy people who don’t care.
subaruforesters94 points1y ago
It definitely does though. There needs to be enough staff for someone to be able to stay off the floor and do the dishes.
noahaiken66 points1y ago
Whenever there's no one available to do dishes until close, at 9, the only way to get out on time is to do the dishes "lazy". Or we get in trouble for staying over our time.
thebestdaysofmyflerm17 points1y ago
I don't think my store even has blue sponges any more. I've been using towels to scrub the dishes...
MonstrousGiggling5 points1y ago
Thats fucked up. Think thats a healtj code violation too.
PeachGreenTea__5 points1y ago
Tell your shifts to order some blue sponges. There’s no reason they don’t order them on the create orders.
mama_bibi2 points1y ago
At my store the shifts do not do york. So "tell your manager" is what you might mean...
Merodisenpai11 points1y ago
When you're busting out seven or eight customers while also trying to get your closing list finished, it's not laziness when you're only one person and a large workload. Don't be so quick to assume the situation. A lot of places are understaffed. The mentality that is given off is the reason nobody wants to work. I make sure my work area is cleaned and everything is ready for the opener.
iamnotabarbie104 points1y ago
😱how!? Ours have been like that since I started
New-Ad4364 [OP]109 points1y ago
all it is is hot soap water and a blue scrubby
ItzBoogieMan25 points1y ago
Like the blue spray stuff or the blue soap water. I tried the blue soap water we get for the dishes and it never seems to come off
BlooperBoo26 points1y ago
The blue scrubby sponges
okayjayson7 points1y ago
A microfiber also works super well in place of a blue scrubby if your store is short on them that week!
xCherryBombshell2 points1y ago
The round blue scrubby? That looks like a toilet brush?
Cautious_Scarcity_358 points1y ago
No it’s like a flat sponge but rough. Shaped like a smooth hour glass
xCherryBombshell2 points1y ago
Ohhhh Idk why when we use that it doesn't do much! We've tried the delimer and it's great for anything metal but the glass/plasticy stuff is tough to get those stains out.
DragonS0l1 points1y ago
Lmao we don't even have srubbies. We have nothing to scrub our dishes with. We're the busiest store in our district and probably bring in the most money and can't have something as simple as scrubbies.
tbb1035 points1y ago
You can also soak it in the urn cleaner. That tends to help speed up the process while you do something else
croissantboyy21 points1y ago
my personal preference is the cafiza tablets. that shit works wonders. especially on the metal brewer!!! (not the urn, the part you put the grinds in)
iamnotabarbie6 points1y ago
Are those the espresso tablets?
croissantboyy5 points1y ago
yeah! the tablets for the espresso machines are called cafiza tablets!! my store finally got the new mastrena II after waiting forever and we still have a bunch of the old machines tablets so we use those to clean stuff with super stubborn stains!
ittybittybakerkitty4 points1y ago
No the blue packets of urnex that you use to clean the drip coffee urns. It works wonders.
Few_Sheepherder37084 points1y ago
i just use the Urnex powder for the Urn and the bean Funnel
croissantboyy1 points1y ago
that works too!! but i hate urnex tho so i only really use the urnex for the urns
Cautious_Scarcity_352 points1y ago
If the metal brewer has a hole in the bottom though how do you clean it? Do you just put them in a bucket and drop a tablet in?
croissantboyy2 points1y ago
i use a cube (preferably one that's also stained so it kills two birds w/ one stone lol. i put the brew basket in the cube and a few cafiza tablets in the brew basket then just fill it with super hot water from the hot water spout till the cube and brew basket are full then i'll let it sit for a little while the tablets dissolve and then swish it around then just let it sit for about 10-15 minutes in between other tasks and voila rinse it off and they look like new. no scrubbing necessary (but like i do an actual wash with soap after too to get the residual cafiza water off
Responsible_Snow710926 points1y ago
We have magic eraser type things that my manager orders and we keep it in the back by the sink and use it for things such as coffee stained trays, stained iced tea lids or pitchers, etc. It works freakin amazingly and its quick using one of those on something stained like that
rathavoc29 points1y ago
My store manager said we can’t use the white magic erasers on food contact surfaces because there is fiberglass in them. Anyone else hear this?
sheep_heavenly54 points1y ago
It's not fiberglass, it's a plastic polymer. Melamine sponges are designed to be abrasive, they're literally sanding off the grime. So the grime is gone, but a bunch of microscopic grooves have been made that have microscopic chunks of a plastic polymer and now are a lovely sheltered home for bacteria.
rathavoc2 points1y ago
That makes sense! Thank you
brokenleftjoycon18 points1y ago
I’m not sure about fiber glass, but magic erasers basically act like sandpaper and can ruin different coatings by scratching them up (potentially leading to bacteria growth or surfaces peeling). That could be a health concern.
sheep_heavenly23 points1y ago
That's literally exactly what we're not supposed to use them for. They make the pitchers stain more easily and harbor bacteria in the microabrasions left behind. They also leave behind microscopic particles of the polymer they're made of, which isn't food safe, inside those same abrasions.
This stain won't develop if they're briefly scrubbed each night, given a more thorough scrubbing once a week, or wiped out with a sanitizer cloth. Microfiber snags grime so well and its actually meant to touch our food safe equipment. Sponges in the dish pit are disgusting in their own right, but especially when they're not even food safe/render the dishes they're used on not food safe.
Responsible_Snow71093 points1y ago
My coworkers neverrrrr scrub anything that can get stained such as tea pitchers and lids, coffee trays. None of it. They only soap it up and they rinse it off with water and throw it in the hobart. They never scrub it a bit each nite until it becomes so bad and then someone does something about it. Theyve been doing that since before i started 2 years ago. It does take stains off very well from what ive seen. I havent used it on dishes yet cuz they put me on dishes once in a blue moon but ill tell my one shift about it cuz shes usually the one that actually uses it the most
Isaac_Ingram1 points1y ago
While these do work well, the polymer in them isn't food safe and they subsequently shouldn't be used on food contact surfaces.
Responsible_Snow71091 points1y ago
Ohj see i never heard about that anywhere. I personally havent used em yet on food surfaces but there have been a handful of times that i go in the back to grab stuff and my one shift who is SUPER food safe and always tries to make sure everything is happening the right way, ill be seeing her in the back using those on really stained surfaces so im curious as to why she always uses them if shes super diligent about how everything else is handled
Isaac_Ingram1 points1y ago
She honestly might just not know. I didn't know for the longest time and neither did a bunch of people in my store.
polarizedspaghetti2 points1y ago
Your manager should be able to purchase blue scrubbers and mr cleans
[deleted]-2 points1y ago

Thraoawei38 points1y ago
And no one there or anywhere else will care. Go find a job where they will -signed a former Starbucks manager who would have valued this but was pushed out because they don't care at all about you cleaning this well. I'd have loved it personally. Not being a dick... Channel this elsewhere.
EliMinivan35 points1y ago
I work at a licensed store. The wholen6 hour closing shift is 1 person with only 45 minutes to clean after closing. Our espresso machines bean hopper haven't gotten scrubbed or cleaned in over a year.
Poptart091110 points1y ago
It's the same way at Target Starbucks but it closes at 9:00 and we're only scheduled til 9:15 🙃
EliMinivan7 points1y ago
Damn you guys close at 9? We close at 730 and leave at 815. Closing shifts are 5.75 hours as to not allow lunches
Poptart09112 points1y ago
Yup. Closing shifts are generally 4 pm-9:15 pm but it's usually only 1 person so we have til 10 before we go into compliance. Occasionally it starts at 3:30
FlippinAsian3 points1y ago
Yikes that’s scary
mypoopoosmelly6922 points1y ago
Dang, might bookmark this, I have a few pitchers that look dirty af like this so i might put urn cleaner in them and let them sit…
reclusivegiraffe10 points1y ago
you just need to let them soak in hot soap water and scrub a little
mypoopoosmelly698 points1y ago
How long do you let them soak for? I usually do floors and other tasks when closing and never really have time in the day to clean the pitchers.
sheep_heavenly8 points1y ago
I'll throw some HOT water from the instant tap in it while I'm closing down a bar or serving a customer at night, then when there's a lull I'll dump it out and wipe it out with a sani rag before sending it back. Stain melts right off. Also helps with the cold foam pitcher!
reclusivegiraffe2 points1y ago
like, 10 minutes? doesn’t need very long. usually i’ll fill the sink and let them soak for a bit, then come back and do dishes
gingergal-n-dog0 points1y ago
Bathroom cleaner soak about 10 min then wash like normal.
Isaac_Ingram1 points1y ago
Wouldn't do that because restroom cleaner isn't food safe.
plantainpapii1 points1y ago
U smart
scorpioxqueeeenn11 points1y ago
every time i do dishes at my store they’re like u don’t need to scrub everything focus on other shit and i’m just like but this is dirty.
mellababy7 points1y ago
If they were scrubbed regularly the correct way they wouldn’t even get dirty! This is literally why I quit after I transferred- they wouldn’t let me actually clean anything. So gross.
LadyLechuga3 points1y ago
they won’t even let me do the dishes because I’m “not fast enough” but they’ll be mad when the tea pitchers don’t look this sexy!
hakutakoo10 points1y ago
That’s what happens when you just put it in the Hobart
badbandnames6 points1y ago
It is only a sanitizer machine. NOT a dishwasher!
marilynmansonsbitch19 points1y ago
We had a whole training a couple weeks ago that confirmed it is indeed, a dishwasher.
However, this now means people just throw it right in there barely rinsed off. This also does nothing.
zzid2d217 points1y ago
I would encourage everyone to look at the water at the bottom of the "just a dishwasher". The Hobart is also supposed to be cleaned every day. Look at the sprayer arms and the bottom screen. Dollars to donuts the water is a weird shade of brown and the metal parts are covered with scale. I hate that they have cut your hours so deeply that you can't even clean properly.
marilynmansonsbitch2 points1y ago
Exactly what happens when people just throw dirty dishes in there raw.
I was gonna say I wish we hd proper training so people would know how to use it w/o creating more work for others, but we literally did and its still a universal question mark.
cuervoescondido6 points1y ago
Imagine being so confidently wrong.
islandmongibello2 points1y ago
Imagine not knowing that different stores have different equipment. My store’s Hobart is a sanitizer that recycles it’s water.
0x52and1x522 points1y ago
fr embarrassing
smaugdterrible1 points1y ago
oops
Mission-Accident-9175 points1y ago
NAH BC I WENT TO ONE W ROACHES AND FLIES EVERYWHERE I HAD TO REMAKE DRINKS CAUSE THEY WERE FLYING INTO THEM
Bhaisaab865 points1y ago
Might get a lil shit for this. Buuut restroom cleaner works wonders on all stains (except kiwi). Spray it on and the stains are gone in seconds. Just make sure you thoroughly rinse and sanitize them.
altairbitch10 points1y ago
Restroom cleaner isn’t food safe, and you shouldn’t be putting it on food contact dishes even if you’re sanitizing them afterwards—if you want, you can use the blue spray instead since it’s our only food safe chemical (as far as i’m aware). You can also order little scrubby brushes that are labeled “food contact” and “non-food contact” and are blue and yellow respectively. They’re fantastic!
NKuiken1 points1y ago
I do the same. I clean out with soap after stains are gone then sanitize. Perfection every time.
quickthinxallthots4 points1y ago
haha the first image is what ours looks like! ill have to keep this in mind
The spout comes off……? Why tf did I not know this?!
Few_Sheepherder37082 points1y ago
why is no one talkin bout the liquid disinfectant stuff. it’s like liquid barkeepers friend and it’s so good for cleaning anything.
ObjectiveError32531 points1y ago
this is literally something that i am combating every day at my store. our dishes routinely look like that & i’m the only one who actually cleans them. it’s infuriating
FloofiAllie1 points1y ago
What kind of pitcher is that?
Spacemarine21421 points1y ago
Good ol restroom cleaner ;)
anitasdoodles1 points1y ago
‘It’s just stained’ nooooope

hipbs231 points1y ago
Spirit cleaner! Aka bathroom cleaner. Spray let sit and then spray out.
Isaac_Ingram1 points1y ago
Unfortunately, the restroom cleaner, at least the one my store has, is not food safe.
mama_bibi1 points1y ago
Bleach is an amazing product
Aliciarox111891 points1y ago
I went to a store and caramel and white mocha on all the "clean" dishes.. I was like I will be in the back
Typical_Gate_98261 points1y ago
Umm
Hazel_is_Trans1 points1y ago
Now I want more time to do dishes like 20 minutes is not enough
sneakyhoneydew1 points1y ago
Orgasmic 😫. I did this at my store before I transferred to a much cleaner store.

Use Urnex with the hot water from the spout on the brew station. It’s red. Leave for 10 min. Pour out and add light warm water and start scrubbing. It will peel right off. Rinse in water. Wash in the wash station (blue soap) RINSE. Sanitize! In Hobart. ONLY a sanitizer machine. NOT a dishwasher
CS38833 points1y ago
Some of them ARE dishwashers maybe the one at your store isn't. There's literally dishwasher soap hooked up to the line lmao and sanitizer solution.
Popperz4Brekkie1 points1y ago
U r a dishwasher
Popperz4Brekkie-29 points1y ago
Step 1 - Restroom cleaner and a magic eraser. Step 2 - Don’t rinse, put back into service immediately.
Detantevandaisy-16 points1y ago
Ohhhh I LOVE going to other stores and make them feel bad about how nasty they are 🥰 coming from a store where we are all ocd about cleaning, it’s always satisfying when you can get something back to its original colour
mellababy3 points1y ago
THANK YOU THERE IS NO EXCUSE!! Oh my goodness. I loved working at starbucks until I transferred to a store that didn’t want to clean anything. I refuse to go through their drive through, I will gladly choose a local store or drive to the starbucks location in our neighboring city.
Detantevandaisy2 points1y ago
I once worked at a store and there was literally mold around the drain of the ice 🤢 I lifted the thing that holds the ice and I was like yoooo do you not clean this??? And they were like oh.. no we just pour hot water 😳. I was soooo disgusted
Emarie2200-1 points1y ago
Honestly confused why your comment got downvoted 😂 if the store is gross, they’re gross. They should feel bad. But they should also be taught if they’re willing and if they’re not 🤷♀️ don’t even bother cleaning them. Not your problem if you don’t work there.
Detantevandaisy2 points1y ago
Probably because their store is gross 🤫 I always like to go the extra mile for other stores and clean at places they normally forget so that it gets done. I know it wont be my problem in the end, but still
