anybody on bar feel like they’re part of a zoo?(self.starbucksbaristas)

every time i’m on bar and customers are looking over and watching not only everything i do but how i interact with customers and partners while i’m making their drink feels just uncomfortable. i feel like they’re watching me to correct what i’m doing or find a problem with the drink i’ve made them. it’s even worse when customers watch me and CORRECT me while i’m making their drinks. and even when i make their drink correctly i’m constantly nervous by how they watch. i’m not a person on display, i’m just making your silly lil drink

I feel the same. A lady was watching me today and was yelling at me that there wasn't supposed to be creamer and was correcting as I'm making drinks and I told her that her drink wasn't even the one I was working on and that I would get to hers soon. It's like people don't realize that in a lobby full of 20 other people... yours probably isn't even next. I don't normally let it get to me but I was on drive bar and had time to help with Cafe drinks and the lady decided to target me. It's just coffee, people.

You call it a zoo, I always call it a fishbowl. Drives me crazy too!

It’s an aquarium, people basically pressing their faces up to the glass with their dumb ugly faces. If anyone is so close to the glass that it’s distracting to me, I will say, “Can you please stand back, this may not be Sea World but you’re in the splash zone.” Assertive but playful, works every time
Edit: either that or I’ll pump syrups so aggressively they spray backward from the force of hitting the bottom of the cup. Don’t want syrup in your freshly shampooed hair? Give me my f***ing space to breathe

Because people have main character syndrome. Thats why theyre way to incompetent to realize that just cuz they ordered at the register at 2:53, doesn't mean the next drink that is worked on or comes out after that point is theirs.

Just stare back at them until they look away. Don’t break eye contact. Assert your dominance.
