using my own tumbler for my shift drink? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by maxvesta99
i’ve only done training shifts/have my first official shift coming up this week but been grabbing food and drink usually when I leave for the day. i typically like using tumblers and thermos i have for my own convenience bc i drink pretty slowly, so i used one when i made my drink the last time i went and no one said anything, but i remembered afterwards that there’s whole policies on like the “not touching peoples’ personal cups” thing, etc.

basically i just wanted to know if there’s anything Else to know about that? do i just have to make sure it doesnt touch any equipment or anything (i’m definitely not like washing it or anything at the store, that’s just weird)? is it fine if its literally just … im pouring content into it? i still don’t super know what im supposed to do if i want to use it for a frappuccino other than just use a plastic cup anyways and only pour after blended, but i imagine other stuff (lattes and maybe ill actually try shaken espressos now) is the same process as if it were a normal cup except always use the shot glass?

personal cups are allowed now, and there’s a whole guide on the partner hub for it with option like : wearing gloves, putting the personal cup in a “for here mug” and transferring it by the handle of the mug, my store uses a sanitizer tray sometimes, etc etc. it’s just saying like don’t touch it, make sure it’s clean, wash your hands, pass it to the bar partner in another vessel, etc etc.

eta it has ALWAYS bothered me when people put personal cups up onto the machine to pull shots straight into, rinse it with our BPR, not wash their hands after, etc. that’s a big no.

okay cool that makes sense! the only part i’m kinda :? about is like … if it’s my own cup, can i just …. hold it? or kinda let it chill in the mug so it doesn’t touch the counter, then I would only pick it back up after everything’s done and cleaned? guess I’m just not sure how far I have to go with keeping it separated considering it has to come from my own hands anyways and I usually leave afterwards or would hypothetically be on break!

honestly if it’s your own and clean it’s probably fine! if you want to be technical about it, put it in a mug lol. i’ve always just done a quick sanitizer wipe after a personal cup has passed through. and do a quick wipe of things and make no big fuss about it.

At my store our sm encourages us to because there were millions of partner markouts last year alone and they wanted to help eliminate waste at least a little by having us use reusables- even put out a bunch of cute reusable ones for us in case we don’t have one then we just wash them out!
