does anyone else think there’s something wrong with the turkey provolone pesto panini?? like quality wise?(self.starbucksbaristas)

every single time one gets cooked in the oven at my location it makes me literally nauseous. I got sent home early because of the smell wouldn’t go away, and the scent has lingered for a half hour.

Let’s be honest, there’s a quality issue with literally everything at Starbucks.
I’m hardly ever on food, so I haven’t been able to notice what you’re talking about here. I do constantly notice how paninis have half the amount of innards as others of the same kind.
elizabethmegan [OP]24 points1y ago
oh that’s absolutely also an issue, but for turkey pesto specifically idk if it’s the provolone or the turkey itself or what but something smells absolutely rancid
Bhaisaab8621 points1y ago
It’s possible something could be rancid lol. My store has gotten shipments of frozen food that were clearly left unrefrigerated at some point and refrozen, with spots of mold on them.
elizabethmegan [OP]10 points1y ago
YIKES. to further elaborate I did call the quality assurance corporate number at least lol and like. when they’re uncooked they’re maybe slightly stinky but otherwise fine, maybe from the provolone???, but they just. get so nasty in the oven

Have you had covid recently or before? Sounds like Parosmia to me.
medusas-garden3 points1y ago
Per food safety standards your store shouldn’t be accepting shipments like that

I literally stopped eating them cause they keep making me sick now
laadupe19 points1y ago
omg I HATEEEE the smell of those too!! I can literally smell them in the oven all the way from the window 🤢
rlb141514 points1y ago
Huh it’s interesting you brought that up. My ssv just mentioned the same exact thing the last shift I did. And we all agreed and I thought maybe we’re all just like around it so much that it’s getting nauseating. But reading this, maybe there is a quality issue

This is a little random, I’ve been with sbux for 3 years now and one of my first days I ordered a tomato mozz and got food poisoning :( so now all of the paninis make my stomach turn like just the smell :/ too many things are left unrefrigerated before we get them honestly it’s gross

They've never smelled great, heated up.
(I still eat 'em though-- Usually I take the provolone off, it helps a bit.)
elizabethmegan [OP]5 points1y ago
do you know if there was provolone on the turkey pesto before the label change? (like it used to just be turkey pesto panini now it’s turkey provolone and pesto on… whichever bread it is)
LycaenopsPictus4 points1y ago
Had provolone on it as long as I've worked (About 3.5 years). Though, the new label makes the presence of cheese a little more clear for customers.
Jaded_Fun_71335 points1y ago
YES IT STINKS SO BAD
Darcie_Autham3 points1y ago
Provolone isn’t meant to smell great. I’ve always like and provolone to smelling like stinky feet. But that’s just me

One of my first shifts when I was new, we had a bunch of markouts from the night before. No one else really wanted any because they'd worked there long enough that the novelty had worn off, but I took basically one of everything being tossed. Tried the turkey panini first, and it made me sick. I thought "OK, it was a markout, maybe the turkey was bad." So I tried a fresh one on my break a couple days later, and I suddenly had to run to the bathroom during a rush about 45 minutes later.
I won't touch them now, and I'm even a bit leary of anything with chicken.
mypoopoosmelly693 points1y ago
they smell like ASS dude!!! I’m on warming a bunch and luckily chicken caprice(idk how to spell it lol), tomato mozz, and the chicken bacon paninis only ever get ordered. turkey is the last resort 🤣🤣
Responsible_Snow71091 points1y ago

Ive noticed that too like there’s something off about the meat, I’ve noticed the same thing with the Chicken Caprese as well the meat just tastes off.
friendlySkeletor2 points1y ago
