So my goal when I’m running the floor is to “rotate” everyone. I will say that as a SSV the shift should be able to watch the floor from this position, aka, food, warming, or CS.

clarification - I DO get to bar-back on occasion while solo-driving

Y E S ! ! ! i’m on DT every shift lately, only moving around when i specifically ask to, despite the fact that i’ve brought it to the attention of multiple people, multiple times. i know it’s because we’re a busy store and i’m much more efficient at DT than at any other station, but that’s because i never get the chance to sharpen my skills elsewhere. i started asking every shift to move at least for a little bit, and that’s what i’ve been doing for the last two weeks. yet still, they keep putting me there. i’m so d r a i n e d of DT!!

My supervisors usually try to rotate but on occasion, some ask for opinions on what strengths people have and place them accordingly. Sometimes, those who are indifferent, allow baristas who get there early to choose where they wanna be! Lastly, its sometimes if you are really impressionable on DTO/DTR or not very good at other positions, you get placed on drive-thru. All these reasons are not argued to be okay, but that’s what I have observed.

I've been around for a couple months. I've hard less than 2 hours on hot bar. I'm the go to DTO/DTW gal because of my customer service abilities. I always hear that our biggest tip mornings are mornings I'm on the window. Honestly it's draining. I'm a very good with people introvert so I'm wiped out by the end of my shift. My SM keeps promising me that I'll get bar time, but I'm an opener so I don't see where that's going to happen, because peak.

I feel like my shifts put people where their strengths are. I personally hate bar so I’m glad to be DTO pretty often. Maybe you can ask to be on bar during a slower time if they feel like you need more practice?? Nothing against that at all, my SS and SM told me it takes 6 months to be proficient at bar
