Got out of clean play (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by cecilbdementd
Me and one other barista do clean play every week, we are the only ones in the store who know how to do it somehow. This week I requested it off for an event, and the next couple weeks have not been scheduled my usual clean play shift!! I don’t really mind those shifts, it’s nice to wear comfy clothes and satisfying to deep clean, but it has always seemed odd/unfair that nobody else has had to do it at least since I started in November. Hopefully they’re getting some more baristas at my store trained on it and it can be a rotating thing!

UK barista here, hope I'm not being dumb but what is clean play?
diotheleo 10 points 1y ago
it's a block of time scheduled when the store is closed specifically intended for deep cleaning the store

Could you explain what you do for clean play in fairly new (2 months) and have my first one tonight

There are quite a few tasks for clean play, and they might differ depending on the store, and what the shift lead has planned. Some of theain ones are:

-Taking apart and cleaning espresso machines; removing the hoppers, emptying the beans into containers, vacuuming out the rest of the beans, washing and sanitizing the hoppers, and then reassembling the machine. Make sure the hopper are completely dry before you put them back in, as even a little bit of water can break the machines sometimes.

-Fridges; take out all the milks and grates and bleach the inside of the fridge, take the gaskets out and wash them, and then wipe down the outside. Then put everything back in

-Cleaning ice bins; scoop out/melt all the ice in a bin with ice scoop/hot water, remove the lid and the grate at the bottom, and wipe it all down with bleach. Use hot water to rinse it out and make sure there is no more bleach. Put the lid and grates through the wash and then put them back in and refill with ice.

-Food case; take all the food and trays out, throw the food away, and wash the trays. Use window cleaner to wipe down the in and outside of the food case, and if you have one of the window wipers that helps a lot. Once you're done, put all the trays back in.

Those are some of the big ones, and I'm only an 320 partners who's been around for 8 months or so, I imagine there's many people here who could give better tips, but I hope these help.

You guys... dont do all this every day?..

Other than the food case because we dont put food in it, this is all part of my nightly closing routine

We do parts of it. We take apart the espresso machines and clean them, but we don't empty the hoppers except for clean play. We empty and clean Fridges, but not the gaskets every day. We do food case, just don't clean it with windex every day. We don't touch ice bins unless it's clean play.

I had the same issue but I was the only clean play person of the entire team! On Tuesday, Wednesday and Fridays I had to clean the inside of the store and outside which honestly kind of sucked! After asking my manager to get some help she cut my hours in half and now she won’t let me leave lol

It must differ in licensed location. Ice machine is emptied with the daily clean play for that section, which falls on a Tuesday. Every station has a certain day for us. Then Sunday is a flex day where we do the parts we couldn't get to.

Ice machine being the big one in the back. The deep clean of that takes up 1 clean play a month. You have to turn it off, get all the ice out, run a cleaning and sanitizing cycles. It’s a pain in the butt.

We have to do clean play everyday. It goes by stations for us. My whole team plays part in it every day by doing different parts.

Hi friend, stations should always be broken down 1 at a time every day and cleaned before close to ensure cleanliness, clean play is a separate shift that entails tasks that cannot be completed during business hours without disruption to customers (I.e cleaning ice maker, nitro line cleaning, deck brushing floors).

Clean play is the same for us. Every single day and if we find the time where we’re not being swamped by customers then we’ll usually do it along with the night closing.

Rip you getting downvoted for no reason
Levinem717 2 points 1y ago
Lol why are you getting downvoted?
Realistickmhart997 2 points 1y ago
I have no idea. I was just curious about the clean play because we do it differently
Levinem717 1 points 1y ago
We do it twice a week but try and really focus on cards during our actual shifts.
