I happened to be available for "anything after __ pm" for three days out of the week. I thought this meant close, I never even knew about clean play. One of those days I'm available happens to be my stores clean play day. A good portion of our closing staff have high school curfews. I consider myself the primary clean play barista as it's just me and a shift most weeks. I have learned to appreciate clean play, especially since you get quicker as you learn and so you leave early :))

It also was just randomly assigned to me because i regularly worked fridays and it worked out for them to schedule me as clean play. however, they noticed that I was the only one doing clean play and asked if I was okay with being the assigned cp person weekly and I said that I didnt mind. I would bring up putting someone else as clean play/alternating roles if you dont want to do it every time

Just ask your SM to take you off of clean plays. Most SMs (in my experience at least) are pretty lenient when it comes to scheduling, so unless you are severely understaffed, you should be able to get the hours you want within your requested availability.

Me and a couple other people asked to be put on clean plays. Now it is only us three every single week and if one of us can’t be there they just don’t do it.
