Starbucks Fires Buffalo Union Leader Over False Allegations (perfectunion.us)

She obviously didn't follow policy. Our policy is that she give reasonable time to find coverage and calling the store at 3:29pm when her shift starts at 3:30p is not reasonable time.

I want to vocalize something that I feel is being overlooked in stores that are unionizing. I have worked for companies that are represented by unions before and it is so much easier to get terminated in a union represented company. Yes, unions will protect you from being wrongfully terminated. They cannot protect you if you do not follow policy. Often, especially at Starbucks, time and attendance policy is consistently violated by partners. For any stores that unionize I highly advise every single partner to read the partner guide in its entirety and follow policy word for word.

I guarantee you unionized locations will receive a store manager who is a stickler for policy. If you don't follow policy, disciplinary action will follow up to termination. We are going to lose a lot of partners because of a lack of knowledge of Starbucks policies.

I am not anti union by any means but stores that unionize HAVE to know Starbucks policies better than the managers.

I agree, everyone should read up on the policies, but we should already be doing that to be aware of our job expectations.

We're loosing a lot of partners already just because you can work an easier job at Target or Best Buy for more than SSV pay (at least on the West Coast) 😂

We haven't lost partners due to pay since they increased our pay rate in January in my market. I agree everyone should be aware of the policies but they aren't and it's apparent by the same questions being asked in these threads.

im a bit confused by this because it said she was late in the article due to engine troubles, which are both last minute type deals, and she called and texted to communicate that. was the issue that she called too late? i know group chats aren't company policy but i guess my question is, what was wrong with calling on a last min emergency?

in situations like this i wonder, how can we be expect to be protected from these last minute ordeals? my car got rear ended on the way to work once, and i had to call to say id be late right before my shift- in this situation would i still be reprimanded?

its a lot to think about moving forward, and i hope more clarification is offered

If your shift is at 3:30pm and you call at 3:29pm to say you are going to be late because your car won't start, you would be reprimanded as you should already be in the building ready to clock in.
