Check the gasket at the bottom of the pump handle and flip it.

HOW?!?!
KamelFish 5 points 1y ago
You have to take the whole pump fully apart.
Sbux_King 11 points 1y ago
We usually clean the pump and everything is fine.
TerraSonitus 5 points 1y ago
My life. Flip it

likely either got put together with no o-rings or the o-rings have been worn so much that they don’t work anymore
sero5074 23 points 1y ago
…former partner here and I do believe I was the cause of all our pumps doing that the last month or so I was there.. I think my little stupid mush brain forgot them O-rings.. 😂😂😂
ThatBichAlex 1 points 1y ago
I’m pretty sure it has to be a specific o-ring color too. I want to say it’s the black one
happybowlita83 39 points 1y ago
The actual pump piece has a black plastic ring at the very bottom below the spring, replace it with a new one and it should work fine.
EliMinivan 7 points 1y ago
Last time this happened to me, we just ended up getting a new pump. The seal that went bad was on the pump handle it's self
coffeegirrrl 2 points 1y ago
That's too bad, as every seal is replaceable
bauncethatass 22 points 1y ago
Just quit
Responsible_Snow7109 19 points 1y ago
This happens at my store here n there too. Im convinced its the o-ring that gets used for it is worn out
drowninginristretto 1 points 1y ago
There’s a small plastic ring at the bottom of the actual pumpy bit. Just gotta flip it :)
Responsible_Snow7109 2 points 1y ago
But cant it go in on either side? Its just a round ring 🤷‍♀️
Chaotic_Cat_Boi 18 points 1y ago
Accept this is our fate
Temporary_Syllabub46 15 points 1y ago
Burn the store down
Danielitics04 10 points 1y ago
You dont
Abaracadavera 7 points 1y ago
I haven’t worked there in 10 years; it’s strangely comforting to know the same problems still exist
teet_teet 6 points 1y ago
No, no it’s infuriating!!! I worked there for 15 years and left last year. It’s so upsetting to see Starbucks put effort into the most ridiculous things and then ignore issues like this one for decades. Like how about if we can turn off all the ingredients we are out of instead of a select few? It’s just maddening the list of things that should have been addressed years ago that Starbucks just won’t take care of.
xCherryBombshell 6 points 1y ago
How many boxes do you put in there? Should be two. And don't just swap the pumps / handles the necks are labeled and need match what it is / be cleaned in the sink.

Best way to keep them organized is only take apart and put 1 pump per load of dishes then put it back together once that load is done so the pieces don't get mixed up.
thevelvetunderpants 6 points 1y ago
Twist the black part of the pump every so often to make sure it doesn’t get loose while you’re pumping chai, this would always always always happen to the chai at my store too.
Castiels_Bees 4 points 1y ago
Dismantle the pump, clean it thoroughly, check all o-rings and replace any old or worn ones. Don't forget the "food lube" (actual name on the tube, lol).

The number of partners I worked with that didn't know you could completely dismantle all of the stainless pumps was terrifying. Those things get crazy nasty if you don't do it regularly.
ConfusionDisastrous8 4 points 1y ago
Make sure the pump has the correct gasket/ o-ring on the bottom. Should be rubber with plastic onto he outside. Then make sure to lubricate it when you put it back together. Look up pumps on the hub. There are how to pages that have step by step instructions to show if yoy have the right part on.
fidakitkat 4 points 1y ago
Order a new pump or tell one of your shifts to lol we had a pump like this for so long, we would wrap a towel around it just so it didn’t make mid such a mess. Didn’t matter what ring we used in the bottom
graylikesoap 1 points 1y ago
def the little gasket at the bottom. when you clean it turn it over and screw the black bit on tight
Super-Mycologist-781 1 points 1y ago
Bro clean that shit it’s Becuase the gasket it full make sure to take out the pumps and run the normal wash/ then sanitize and ofc flip it
coffee_angel801 1 points 1y ago
This happens at my store when the pump is getting clogged usually from people not cleaning the inside of the tubes with the brushes or when it needs a new O ring.
Spacemarine2142 1 points 1y ago
New gaskets. Probably will start leaking the week after you replace. Have also found out that if theres too little or too much itll continue happening. All in all it sucks.
permanently_anxious 1 points 1y ago
Sometimes the pump for the white mocha gets put on with the fr or the Chai too which is a disaster
deli_cue 1 points 1y ago
You don't. Just suffer like the rest of us.
RubySapphireSage 1 points 1y ago
This happens with my white mocha , the pump looks broken . I recommend checking the bottom gasket .
InezBlue 1 points 1y ago
Fully open and clean it. If it's not missing an o-ring or gasket or anything like that, the last time ours was like that was because it had gotten moldy. :(
Bhaisaab86 1 points 1y ago
Make sure they’re not being put in Hobart fully assembled. And you’re not supposed to put them back together while they’re still hot or warm from Hobart. Wait till they’re cool to the touch.
Zealousideal-Star448 1 points 1y ago
Your probably missing the gasket. They are little black rings. The size is somewhere between a nickel and dime
Carbonstorm121 1 points 1y ago
Your store gets "pump training" and gets it again next year because by that time at least 25% trained baristas are gone or transferred.
Humble-Comparison190 1 points 1y ago
you don’t
vodwalyn 1 points 1y ago
I always assumed it was because the pump needed to be cleaned. But the comments here make me think it’s just an o-ring issue
tek4ever 1 points 1y ago
Purely posting this to check out the bot. Flip it. Otherwise, I recommend putting a rag around the pump. Won’t solve the problem, but will avoid the mess.
Seriously_jst_4real 1 points 1y ago
Yeah I replaced the bottom gaskets on one of ours that would do that, never fixed it. Just kept being a Ahole. I always assumed it was an issue with the plunger since it was coming up the sides of the tube.
Ibebarrett 1 points 1y ago
Replace the gaskets!
sherdle 1 points 1y ago
DOES THR GASKET THING WORK FOR FRAP ROAST TOO?!?!? Dang. I’ma check the pump out todayyyyy!!
teet_teet 1 points 1y ago
Yes. The chai and frap roast really break down those o-rings. It has to be the right o-ring or it will still leak. And sometimes it will still leak anyway.
iqueefkief 1 points 1y ago
i’ve noticed this always happens when the chai is running low, so if that’s the case, switch out to a full container.
Hoax_Pudding_Cup 1 points 1y ago
So, on the bottom of the pump piece there should be a black/blue plastic little ring, you can have a shift or your SM order them, it will stop the leaking.
SilverXBu11et -15 points 1y ago
Try taking the pump apart and cleaning it. If that doesn’t work then check if the chai itself is expired. Does it smell funky?
MeanGreenBeanOnBar 12 points 1y ago
I will give you 5 bucks to smell the inside of your white mocha pump
Weekly-Name-5112 11 points 1y ago
Whats it being expired have to do with it leaking?
darkwolf523 1 points 1y ago
That’s… not the cause of a leaky pump.
SilverXBu11et 1 points 1y ago
My baristas said it worked. I don’t need to go on the floor often.
darkwolf523 1 points 1y ago
Hm
nikkicarter1111 1 points 1y ago
This can definitely be the issue! We replaced the o-ring and still had this issue, fixed it by taking apart the pump (including taking apart the piece that is topped with the lil green thing that says chai) and deeeeep cleaned it. Worked great after!
