Is training supposed to be this stressful? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by burden_barista
Info: I'm a 320 partner, started in early august. I certified as a trainer a month or so ago and then transferred stores shortly after. My new SM had no idea I was a trainer until I brought it up a week ago, and then she immediately scheduled me to train.

Yesterday I had my first day of training a new partner, and I was stressed. My SM didn't make me a folder for my trainee, so I had to search the back of house for the packets and folder. Since it's my first trainee, I kinda just stuck to the iPad for guidance since I had no idea what I was doing. I felt like I barely made it through everything for day one, and idk how ill do it again today. Is it meant to be this stressful? I felt like I barely squeezed in all the training for the day, with just like 10 minutes left over for questions and review. How can I improve this?

I was a trainer but told them I’m not doing it anymore. Unfortunately new hires aren’t being set up for success and that’s a way bigger problem than a trainer can address. It was too much work for $75 BEFORE tax.

Ex partner here. I suspect my manager got her cut out of this. She made sure *everyone*, rather than one specific person, did training.

Your SM should absolutely be making you a folder, and GOING OVER the day-by-day breakdown for you. Mine sat me down about 30 minutes before my trainee arrived, went over our plan, briefly flipped through the training packet with me, and has been at the store almost every shift I’ve been training in case I need help.

This is my first trainee. It hasn’t been perfect (we’ve had to push it back a few days) but I haven’t felt unsupported at any point. It’s not meant to be that stressful.

Also, make sure your trainee is staying on task for the computer modules; if they get off track, it’s easy to lose time that way.

Thank you. My SM hasn't been at the store for any of the training, I actually haven't even seen her since i started the training. She didn't make me a folder, let alone go over it or explain anything, I had to gather it all myself. I've just been using the IPAD to guide me through it so I hope I'm doing okay

simply put, yes. at least at first. when i was a trainer, the first few times i hated it. but once i got the groove, i made my own notebook because i felt like the training packets weren’t sufficient. the more you train green beans, the more you’ll see what information they actually need. i personally think the training folders leave too many holes.
