Could anyone help explain what exactly happens once you unionize? Do you then control hours, wages, cleanplay, firing? Like does the DM still have any control?
I didnt think I would end up needing to take this seriously but its very much happening where I live just not at my store. I do feel as though we have unreasonable expectations, I feel as though we are not being the third place and we’re not as excited to see customers as I want us to be because they want cars at the box 30 sec or less, and at the window 45 sec or less. This is literally not possible if they want us connecting and being genuinely relaxed and happy to see our customers. That alone is enough to make me start talking to my coworkers about this but I need to understand what exactly changes once a store does this. I dont know if its worth it.

Unions protect you- they protect you wages, hours ect. You negotiate and have a contract so the company can’t violate the terms. The DM still has plenty of control, they just can’t violate the terms agreed upon

So we couldnt give ourselves raises, give ourselves more hours etc, just protect what we already have? Do you know of any specifics that have been negotiated with unionized stores so far? I cant imagine corporate agreeing or compromising to anything.

Corporate has to negotiate once a store votes to unionize. We don’t “just give ourselves raises” it is a negotiation. It is a fact though unions make about 30% more than non union companies. I don’t know about the stores so far- I do know negotiations do take awhile. My store is still waiting for out election.

Definitely make your own research about it, it helped me understand it a lot better. You can even find out maybe why you’re not being provided with any information about it (do your research and you’ll know what I mean) Unionizing is in our hands and it’s important to know as much information about it as possible so you can make an educated decision if voting comes to your store. You can google different pros and cons that come along with unionizing. I believe that is something we should’ve been provided but sadly we were not. As far as compromising goes, sometimes unions will organize strikes and such if the corporation is not willing to budge, and the best part about it is that the union protects your job. But I wouldn’t listen to others opinions about it, you can get factual/unbiased information online and decide for yourself.

Lol why would they make less? We’re not going to negotiate a contract that would hurt us. So that’s a lie. And of course! If you want any materials on unions I’m happy to send some

Your boss will outright lie to discourage partners from joining the union. Definitely not true they’re making less but I would say to find out the truth yourself and don’t take what your manager says at face value.

An union is simply a name for a collective organization of workers. Historically, these have enforced control over wages, firing, hours by withdrawing labor (striking) when the companies' policies are not satisfactory, thus forcing the company to lose money until they cave in to the workers' demands. In the United States, unions typically seek to achieve NLRB recognition, which legally forces the company to attend negotiations with the union.
On average, unions raise wages and benefits by a lot. https://i.imgur.com/HufvcxM.png
