Y’all got me here for 5.75 hrs (damn near 6 hours) doing 8 jobs in 1 and only gonna give me a 10 minute break? Bruh, f*** y’all. 😑(self.starbucksbaristas)

facts. its like theyre teasing us 😭😭 "you wanna have a 30 so bad" YEAH I DO AND UR DANGLING IT IN MY FACE I JUST WANNA EAT MY SANDWICH AT MY OWN PACE
Pylon-Cam40 points1y ago
Honestly, having to take an unpaid 30 feels like a waste. It’s not enough time to really do much with.
dthomp080617 points1y ago
It's enough time to eat and rest. Id rather be there the extra 15 minutes so i can get a 10 and a lunch.
Pylon-Cam15 points1y ago
You’d be leaving 15 minutes later and getting 15 minutes less pay if you work a 6 hr shift with a lunch instead of a 5.75.
So I get why having a lunch may be worth it for you, but it’s not personally worth it to me!
dthomp080613 points1y ago
Oh I'm fine with that, it's only 15 minutes. Id rather have the rest since usually they send us on our 10s too early in the shift.
elodieme11 points1y ago
Yeah I'll leave 10min early so I don't have to take a lunch
Necessary_Low93911 points1y ago
Omg 😂 at my own pace lololo
exbarista12389 points1y ago
This is done intentionally to meet labor while having enough people on the floor for the day while still being able to give 30's out to other people without being too many people down.
Yes it's bullshit, I know, I used to often be scheduled 5.75 shifts.
This is one of the many reasons to unionize/quit. The laughable part is a lot of the people doing 5.75's are the ones doing the harder/more stressful roles.
notrachelmar8 points1y ago
is this canadian? we do the 4.75 hours bc we have to take a lunch at 5 hours. because personally i’d rather work and not have a lunch since it isn’t payed… like bro i do not want to have a 5 hour shift then not get paid for 30 minutes of it, but that’s just me
Paid-Not-Payed-Bot-2 points1y ago
> it isn’t *paid…* like bro
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

oh wow i am actually really embarrassed

Gonna be dead honest... I'm a 260×××× barista that lasted two years... when I started, the company was great! Loved my coworkers and the job. Now... fuck the ceo, he doesn't care about you... find a serving job. It pays more for 1000× with less work. With the profit you're pulling in there is no reason you should be paid less than 17$ an hour. So fuck corporate... yall should work as slow as you can, go on strike. You're ceo doesn't give a flying fuck about you, so you should make him give a fuck about you. Leave for a better job or ask for better pay. And your 10 min breaks?! Start the clock when you sit down with your meal. Fuck all that bullshit where it starts when the shift tells you. Stand up sbux people... you're being overworked by a shit ton
Necessary_Low9399 points1y ago
Any Ceo never gives a Fck about anyone but at least be fcken reasonable lol
LemonDraaide1 points1y ago
The last ceo gave like .25 of a fuck, new dood is booty cheecks.
Necessary_Low9391 points1y ago
This is actually the old dude.
LemonDraaide1 points1y ago
I thought Howard Schultz retired in 2017, can't remember the new guys name
BabySlitherking18 points1y ago
We brought this up at a shift meeting and our policy now is that we either give six hours with a meal or we give a second ten for 5.5/5.75 (if the barista wants it, some don’t). It’s definitely made our baristas happier, but I know that’s totally dependent on managers.
canidieyet_18 points1y ago
my favorite thing is that i’m scheduled mon-sat next week (yes, 6 days!)— every shift is 5.5 or 5.75 hours. and i know for a fact at least one of those days i’m going to get held over so long that i’ll technically need a lunch since nobody i work with has a sense of being on time. i can’t leave my shift with a bar person who has only had 1 full day of bar training (all of our night crew is very, very new) for 15-30 minutes when we’re one of the 4 busiest stores in our district.
Necessary_Low93910 points1y ago
When I first worked I was asked why can’t I do six days and I’m like…. Who in the world would do that. That ain’t part time.
canidieyet_1 points1y ago
for real!! i have 33 hours that week so like…i’m not that mad tbh. i like money.
Necessary_Low9392 points1y ago
Yeah money is good but why can’t they just schedule 8 hr shifts then. When I first worked it was always 8 hr shifts. Now it’s these 4-6 hrs bs
canidieyet_1 points1y ago
tbh i like the 5-6 hour shifts. anything longer absolutely drains me physically and mentally—not saying a 6 hour doesn’t, but at least i have the energy to do something after i’m off lol
Thrinit8 points1y ago
Back in my day, they schedule baristas for 6 hours and u got PAID for 6 hours with two tens
keatixg8 points1y ago
no literally like it should be illegal
C0ffeeCoffeeC0ffee6 points1y ago
It is in some states
Imaginarybluntallday3 points1y ago
In Washington if you have to come back early from your unpaid lunch, you’re supposed to get paid for the whole thing. I have to come back so often from my lunch that I started clocking in early from it, so now we will see what happens 👀 I’m also having to report my manager from not respecting sick time written in the book.
Edit: I’m a shift, and believe in taking all advantage of my position in this company; like Im gonna milk them for all the benefits.
Pre-rich-bish [OP]1 points1y ago
As you should!
puppymill133 points1y ago
Wait. Yall get breaks?
Mission-Accident-9172 points1y ago
they don't want to pay to have enough people there for your 30 min break only time ive seen someone get their 30 min is they were a shift
gram_wc1 points1y ago
whenever i want some extra time to sit i just claim my ibs is flaring up so i can sit on the toilet 😌basically an extra 10 min break
vinylcollector241 points1y ago
oh weird… in ontario it’s 5+ hours needs a 30 minute. so they always schedule us for 4.75. which feels pointless to be there for less than 5 hours! it’s even worse when they do just 4 hours!
bobduncansdick1 points1y ago
one of my coworkers is getting two three-hour shifts a week with no 15!
vinylcollector241 points1y ago
ahhh no!! that’s just wrong!😭 i briefly worked at forever 21 and they used to schedule me for 8 hours and call me an hour before my shift and let me know they only needed me for 6 hours. then 3 hours in they’d tell me they didn’t need me anymore and i had to go home. i was pissed i ended up quitting because i spent more on gas then i was making!!
bobduncansdick1 points1y ago
i used to work at tim hortons but it was the complete opposite! i was scheduled to open for eight hours and usually ended up working 12 because i was a supervisor and management would always leave early. ugh.
vinylcollector241 points1y ago
oh man okay yeah that’s worse. especially at a job like that! that’s hard work. and it makes it so much worse when management leaves before you!!
monochromaticcat1 points1y ago
GOD MY STORE DOES THIS TO ME ALL THE TIME I HAVENT HAD A LUNCH IN MONTHS. THEY SCHEDULE ME DURING THE BUSIEST HOURS BC IM THE ONLY GODDAMN PERSON WHOS WILLING TO BE THE FRONT REGISTER AND ITS ALWAYS 5.5 OR 5.75 HOURS AND I HAVE TO DO AT LEAST TWO JOBS AT ONCE BECAUSE IDK WHAT THE SUPPORTS R DOING IN THE BACK ROOM ALL THE TIME BUT IT SURE AS HELL ISNT STOCKING ANYTHING OR WIPING THE DISGUSTING STICKY COUNTERTOPS LIKE THEYRE SUPPOSED TO!!! LIKE NO MATTER WHO THEY PUT ON SUPPORT NO ONE EVER DOES ANYTHING EXCEPT CHANGE THE COFFEE WHEN THE TIMER GOES OFF AND THEN GO SIT AROUND IN THE BACK ROOM MAKING SMALL TALK WITH THE SHIFT OR THE MANAGER OR WHOEVER :( no one ever cleans anything here… I think I’m the only person who’s EVER wiped the gross dusty ass windows at this Starbucks. New store, opened maybe a year ago, and I don’t think the drive thru counter had been cleaned at all before I took the initiative to scrub off the literal encrusted layers of syrup Smh
Shetlips4201 points1y ago
i work at a kiosk at an airport, like dead center of a busy airport. i usually work 7.30-8 hours a day and i only get 1 30 minute and that’s it, i rarely get to have time to recuperate
padfootXM1 points1y ago
I was a shift for a while, my store always gave 2 10s if you didn’t get a half.
If you got a half you got one ten, your half, then another 10. I didn’t realize this was unique to my store.

Utah doesn’t even require break so most jobs just don’t give them out unless they are a big company. Smh.
bisexualgirlboss1 points1y ago
YES!!!! Like bruh I’m gonna be doing the job of two/three people and bust my ass way too hard, I might as well get some hours and a 30 out of it. Plus I just want to eat my egg bites and not burn tf out of my mouth
pinkflowergirl41 points1y ago
Yes this happens to me alllll the time. Plus usually I'm not even allowed to go home right when I'm done so I end up working just minutes shy of 6 hours with practically no break. Usually thrown on solo window and drive
arobynn_hamel1 points1y ago
As a shift I almost never take my 10 unless I'm feeling horrendous that day. I just think it's shitty to be in a leadership role and know your baristas r working just as hard or harder than you and then proceed to take 40-50 minutes off the floor on break
sheep_heavenly49 points1y ago
Please don't do this. Take your breaks. Demand proper staffing for your floors but don't let corporate profit off your empathy.
hungry_quadricorn3 points1y ago
I agree 100%, always take the breaks you are given. Be kind to yourself and your baristas should understand that you are there for a while. Plus, you are getting paid for those breaks unless it is a lunch. I’ve been a shift for almost 4 years and I just started taking both of my 10s. I only ever took my lunch and my oh my what was I thinking. Lead by example and show that it is more than okay to take the breaks you are given :)
caspi30 points1y ago
That’s weird, when I get scheduled just 5.50 hours my shifts always give me a 30 and a 10.
DarkAtavian2 points1y ago
That's because you are working 6 hours and the 30 is accounted for. So you are being paid for the 5.50
