Ice chests? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by 5AV1OR
Are we supposed to fill ice chests for customers? We had a partner from another store and demand we fill his Walmart bag with ice and we told him we could give him cups of ice but would not be taking his bag into the back of our store to fill with ice.

Okay thanks so much we were all like are we insane for not doing this for him??? He got so mad he stood there and argued for 15 minutes about how it’s policy and our SSV the whole time was handling it so well she told him “Regardless of policy we are not allowed to even handle personal cups I will not take your bag to the back to fill it with ice”
Emarie2200 22 points 1y ago
You still can’t take cups?? My store takes cups in store, but not in drivethru
5AV1OR [OP] 30 points 1y ago
We can take them in cafe they just have to remove the lid and set the cup in a mug for us

I write "Skills of the Week" for my store (which are bite-sized reminders that help us correct a food safety task we're skimping on). I was surprised to find out while doing research about using customer cups that we were supposed to be using the mug method even before Covid due to strains like the norovirus. Look it up on the partner hub.

Our ice machine keeps breaking so ...
Necessary_Low939 34 points 1y ago
Demand? Did he even ask beforehand? Sounds like he just went in randomly to get ice.
5AV1OR [OP] 27 points 1y ago
Correct he consistently visits our town and our store and harnesses us and hides behind “I’m a 15 year partner I know what I’m talking about” he is always condescending and I’m sure he is sexist because he targets my female coworkers and then tries to be buddy buddy with the male coworkers
Necessary_Low939 23 points 1y ago
“I don’t care if you’re a 51 year old partner, that’s not how you ask for things.”

He sounds like someone who doesn’t even respect his mom

Find out what store/district he’s at and call his SM or even his DM. Once upon a time we had a barista from another store freak out on us about a recipe, and it was escalated up.
Necessary_Low939 8 points 1y ago
Oh damn. What’s the tea with this one 👀
5AV1OR [OP] 13 points 1y ago
Our shift asked him what he was gonna do with the ice and he replied “eat it, good for the enamel”
Necessary_Low939 8 points 1y ago
Tell him to fck off. Use those same exact words
cpv_91 17 points 1y ago
If your SM allows you to do it in your home store.. Cool but expecting that to happen when you're traveling 😂😂😂😂😂 (117 here, back when most SMs were nice)
BeardiesRule112 11 points 1y ago
Ummm no lmao
RubySapphireSage 9 points 1y ago
And he’s a partner ? He knows the protocol he better not try it again .
5AV1OR [OP] 8 points 1y ago
Due to some encouragement after talking to the SSV who dealt with this I think we will try and get his partner numbers and contact his store manager and/or his DM to have a conversation about him and his behavior. I didn’t think this would be an option because he comes in on personal time but we will see if anything comes of it!

wtf no

One time I brought my ice chest in the store and filled it up with ice the night before a major storm came through our area. We lost power for a couple weeks and having the ice on hand for free was clutch for keeping medicine and water cold. My ssv didn't question it. Everything in the store has to be cleaned and sanitized after being shut down for so long, so I'm sure it didn't make a difference food safety wise. 🙃
jazzysoranio 5 points 1y ago
He’s a partner? Did you get his partner number and is the district manager aware of him?
uwumoment 5 points 1y ago
one time we had a store come in with trash bags for us to fill up with ice, and we did it bc our manager pre approved of it, but it was still weird….
FearlessSentence9667 4 points 1y ago
once my ssv had me do that for someone but it’s only happened once and never again since then. and they didn’t have me take the chest into the back, they had me fill a trash bag with ice for them… it was still weird tho
rudebii 2 points 1y ago
We did this for regulars if we had the ice to do it. Usually it was customers going to a kids soccer game or something. We were heavy frap store, so it was definitely a rare thing and not something to be expected.
Zealousideal-Star448 2 points 1y ago
No? We don’t know how clean his chest is and if someone gets sick “from the ice chest” that was cleaned with deadly chemicals. We can give them a shit ton of trenta cups, but no ice chests
verdeuce 2 points 1y ago
Yo like for personal use?
graylikesoap 2 points 1y ago
no. it’s just a way for them to try and get ice without having to buy it by the bag.
zed2eh 2 points 1y ago
Not sure about Starbucks policy but when I worked at McDonald’s we would do this regularly for customers.
persona-2 1 points 1y ago
The only time we fill a random container with ice is when the ice machine breaks at the store down the road. We like them. We will share ice with them if it comes to it.
5AV1OR [OP] 1 points 1y ago
I’d share ice with another Starbucks maybe even another business, but I’d do it in a clean, sanitary, and responsible way not in a Walmart bag they pull out of their pocket 😂

My shift ended up transferring the ice to his bag with a Trenta cup from our ice bin on the floor to his bag at our pos took probably 15 or so before he was satisfied… or tired of waiting idk lol
