I hate it when customers ask me what they should get for their keto diet or whatever like buddy I am not paid enough to research every single diet and tell you something that you can and should just Google
And my issue isn’t even that people ASK, it’s that the interaction is always awkward and annoying. I’ll say “aah, I’m sorry, I honestly do not know enough about that diet to say.” And every single time I get this disappointed and attitude-filled “Oh.”
Or I have this fun exchange:
—
Customer: My drink needs to have ABSOLUTELY NO SUGAR ONLY SWEETENERS. >:(((( So yeah. I want an iced matcha with vsccf.
Me: Right! So, our matcha does have added sugar already included, and our vsscf is made with our vanilla, which also has sugar added. I can do our plain nonfat cold foam with sugar-free vanilla to replace it, but our matcha unfortunately cannot be made sugar-free.
Customer: … WHY DON’T YOU JUST TAKE THE SUGAR OUT? ALSO HOW MANY CALORIES IS A VENTI.
Me: The sugar is incorporated into the powder, so it cannot be removed. I’m trying to think of a suitable replacement for you—maybe our chai? Also, as for calories, I don’t know off the top of my head, but our app has all nutritionary information listed!
Customer: (huge sigh) WELL THAT’S UNHELPFUL. I GUESS THE MATCHA IS FINE.

Like???? I’m going insane here

Seriously and don't ask me if stuff has gluten in it. Idk what gluten is and I'm gonna tell ya straight up I have no clue. I'm sorry people have intolerances or special diets but that's on you not me. Also Starbucks will tell you straight up that they make no guarantees for allergies so I'm making no guarantees that I know what has gluten.
thefoolwitch [OP]19 points1y ago
God same. We have a regular who comes in and tries to get us to promise her that there isn’t any gluten in the egg bites and I’m like “I literally have no idea and even if I did I CANNOT GUARANTEE ANYTHING.”
She will roll her eyes and say “okay but like this is a very simple question. is there gluten in it though? I will die if there is lol”
Like!! maybe don’t fucking order it then!!! I always have to fight with her and next time I’m gonna just answer and walk away I can’t stand it
No-Pearl0008 points1y ago
i’m sure you don’t care but i know our marshmallow dream bar is gluten free, and i think the egg bites are as well? but yeah that’s the only items we have that are
knowitallbarista4 points1y ago
egg bites aren't gluten free, they use gluten as a binder. the Marshmello dream bars and cheese and fruit box is as long as they don't eat the crackers.
all of the thick syrups (mocha ect) have gluten, thin ones do not (vanilla). most drink toppings do have gluten
Zestyclose_Low11685 points1y ago
I think you're wrong... There's no gluten listed for either of your examples..
[deleted]5 points1y ago
It may not be listed, but cross contamination does affect those with celiacs. The only thing certified gluten free, is the marshmallow dream bar.
knowitallbarista0 points1y ago
I have a bunch of gluten intolerant and celiac partners at my store and they all get sick when they have eaten the egg bites.
I could be wrong on the mocha, I know it's dairy free
Poptart09111 points1y ago
Right? Like if you have an intolerance (like I do) just look up the ingredients and take your chances with the cross contamination. If you have celiac disease, just don't take the fucking chance!

Hey, as a fellow partner it is apart of jobs to ensure that we know what we’re providing to customers. And as someone who is gluten free it’s super serious and can end in a hospital trip for many. I get it’s frustrating, and I feel that frustration. It’s valid to get upset with customers who don’t provide patience when you don’t have an answer for a question. Gluten is found in wheat which is found in flour. It can also be used as a binding agent in some foods or a preservative to make it last longer. You can always refer the customer back to the app, which is what I do in most cases because we’re trained poorly on food allergens. In any restaurant setting if your providing a service it could come back on you if you’re no aware of the allergens. I had a friend who I was serving with who almost lost her job because she wasn’t mindful of an allergen that ended in the hospital trip for a guest. We’re not paid much… but in my eyes It doesn’t cost anything to ensure someone’s well being.
im_a_pimp3 points1y ago
how tf are we supposed to know ingredient lists for every single item we sell
[deleted]2 points1y ago
Oh shut the fuck up. No. If you have a special diet, you need to know what you can and can’t have. And you can look up the ingredients online. We serve too many products to expect partners to know the nutritional input of every little thing.
Willowmethis9-3 points1y ago
Ya know idk why it’s hard to be a decent human, but obviously it’s pretty hard for you guys. If you’re that hostile to a stranger on the internet who has been in and out of the hospital for food issues I feel genuinely bad for whatever you’re dealing with and I hope your life gets better. Referring someone back to the only menu is a reasonable reply. But to be rude and hostile to someone because they’re concerned about their health is fucked up. It’s not even the customers that bring me concern sometimes it’s fellow partners who feel it’s okay to be disgusting. We all hate the job for different reasons. If you can’t handle a customer asking you a question so they don’t go to the hospital maybe this isn’t the industry for you.
[deleted]5 points1y ago
Our chai is presweetened as well. Also, Starbucks isn’t diet friendly at all. Just make your own shit at home if you want to get super specific drinks like so. The amount of people who will tell me they’re diabetic and can’t have sugar; and when I tell them something has sugar they’re like “I can have a little” and I’m just there like uhhh it’s a lot??? But alright
mrcupcake185 points1y ago
You know what I tell them? “Nothing we have is keto friendly” I have suggested black hot/iced coffee but almost 90% of my customers are not into that so it turns them off anyway. Like I do not understand like come on I swear people don’t do research when they go on these diets, they don’t work bd and Ben when they do the minute you get off it you gain back all the weight.
Poptart09112 points1y ago
Keto is a very bad idea as a diet unless it is very temporary under the care of a doctor/nutritionist for weight loss. Just eat a balanced diet and go on a walk people
Ellectre5 points1y ago
dude we had this customer in the drive thru asked if we had SUGAR FREE chai ?? i was on dto but i literally couldn’t with this customer so my coworker took over and was like no we only have sugar free vanilla (which i already previously told the customer but she righteously ignored me!) and then the customer proceeds to ask HOW our chai lattes are made.. so my coworker explains the whole process and this customer was so convinced that we should be able to extract the “sugar” from the chai like wtf? 💀
thefoolwitch [OP]5 points1y ago
Literally they always seem perplexed by the concept of something coming prepackaged or premade!! Like the customer who demanded a tomato mozzarella with extra tomatoes. :’) I understand ASKING bc you don’t know that it comes wrapped in plastic and stuff but when you go “UGH can’t you just add tomatoes from another sandwich onto it >:(“ like a dumbass idk what to do with that lmao
thegingerhannah2 points1y ago
We do have chai tea bags and could make a custom tea latte with no sugar added
Ellectre1 points1y ago
we did offer her that but she just ignored the chai bag comment 💀
[deleted]3 points1y ago
Another side note, even our sugar free vanilla isn’t Keto friendly because it has Maldexyrisose (idk who to spell it) in it which raises your blood sugar still
J-cat_loves_dogs143 points1y ago
I used to work at Mod and when we got cauliflower crusts we had to tell people its not keto friendly, then they’d change too our regular crust.
Keithxmizu3 points1y ago
please no, not mod. hated working there with every bone and fiber in my body
J-cat_loves_dogs141 points1y ago
I’ve had coworkers who have gone in and they don’t have the best experiences and I remember when I put in my two weeks i made all star and my GM told me she had her eye on me, but couldn’t promote me because of my attitude, that was the only time it was ever brought up which only assured me I was making a good decision.
Keithxmizu1 points1y ago
Oh…. I was a captain… that should tell u abt my mod experience
J-cat_loves_dogs141 points1y ago
*pat* *pat* I’m so sorry
Loose_Bumblebee2 points1y ago
i find it funny when people order teas/refreshers and are like “NO SWEETENER” like bro it already comes like that so order something else
pipebombings2 points1y ago
as a newbie it’s soo awkward like i don’t know about ANY diets so i have to ask my co-workers. one time a lady asked if we had any zero cal drinks and the first thing that i said was water 🥲
