Did anyone else watch the open forum and think- why the fuck is SBUX getting into NFTs and expecting us to like it? If your focus is on bettering the company from the inside and recentering on partner experience why are we wasting energy on NFTs, not to mention the fact that it’s killing the planet, and we as a company “supposedly” care about stopping that.

NFTs seem hip and trendy to rich boomers who're too rich to have a firm grasp on reality.
felinefireghost-6 points1y ago
NFTs are more a millennial thing, boomers don’t really understand crypto or the NFT space.
friendlySkeletor10 points1y ago
Thats the point though. Boomers aren't actually into them but percieve them as cool and hip.
felinefireghost-7 points1y ago
Right but I don’t think boomers are the market here, it’s millennials and gen z. And NFTs are trendy, and likely here to stay, so it makes sense that Starbucks is jumping in on it. Honestly I’m surprised it’s taken them so long.
friendlySkeletor9 points1y ago
No but boomers sre the ones trying to sell it. Despite the fact that NFTs are on a downtrenf in popularity bc ppl are realizing they're bullshit.

oh my god are they actually????

What kind of NFTs are they even trying to get into? Are they going to start selling pictures of apes drinking coffee? Or are they going to make it a super special club where if you own a token you get year-round access to pumpkin spice or something?

Well probably because Metaverse and NFTs seem like it could be the next internet or the next Facebook etc, which means money, so naturally to a CEO, NFTs seem like they could be a profitable new way forward to experiment with.
I love Howard’s coffee experiential branding of Starbucks. (the “Third Place”) I love nerding out with coffee and connecting with people. However, Howard has been anti-worker/anti-union from the start. Our benefits came from UFCW winning them in 1986. Howard bought the company in 1987 and then union busted. Howard also ran for President as being anti-union. You can’t be progressive and be anti-union. Actual progressive corporations, like those in Germany, have labor representation on their board of directors, and as a result of the strong labor force, Germany is mostly middle class. You used to be able to just work one job and go to school in this country. Now, most working class students work 2-3 jobs, and if they live in a place like California, they work those 2-3 jobs and are homeless. Since the 1960s, productivity has skyrocketed, while wages have stagnated and union participation has dropped. The American skilled/unskilled labor argument overlooks the issue of baseline dignity for any worker who sells their labor (and produces the value which turns into profit for the corporation), an in turn, receives a living wage and workplace democracy. Social market economics, as shown from Germany’s history, reins in corporate power, strengthens the middle class, and gives dignity to workers better than our unfettered capitalism and weak labor laws.

champshere0 points1y ago
They also mentioned nothing about actual raises 😂

What kind of NFT? There are lots that are carbon neutral and aren’t bad at all for the environment.
