ASM is a temporary role. It's the training role for SMs, so at most you spend 9-10 months doing it.
Pros:
- consistent hours
- slightly better pay/potential to earn bonuses
- at least in my state, it's a non-exempt salary role, meaning I earn overtime if I work more than 8 hrs in a day/40 hours in a week
Cons:
- You're expected to do a lot of SM work without SM pay.
- The pay increase is not much more per hour than a SSV
- It's hard. I think it's fun, but IT IS a lot of work and a lot to learn
And again, it's not a permanent role. If you do not want to be an SM, then ASM is not for you.
