free drinks? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by lovepplusethings
i've been working at starbucks for about 3 weeks now. i'm not hip to all the terminology yet but i work in a starbucks inside of a grocery store. so we don't have everything a normal starbucks has or does like breakfast sandwiches, blonde espresso, or mobile orders.

my manager and coworkers all understand and agree on no free drinks. the girls i work with don't care so much like they make a drink with no manager there and sip on it secretly throughout their shift. on or off the clock we have to pay for our drinks, not even a discount.

the managers have made it clear to not give ourselves or people we know extra or free stuff. and we have to have someone else ring us up for a drink.

note: my starbucks is pretty low management, if the SBUX manager isn't there we still have to watch out for the grocery store managers but they come by occasionally.

i want a free drink!!! i love the refreshers. should i just get my drink (i've been closing alone lately so i'm thinking that's a better time to grab one)
what to do? what to mention if anything?

That’s sad. Regular Starbucks locations allow for free drinks during work, 30 minutes before your shift, and 30 minutes after. Is this because it’s a licensed location?

I used to work at a licensed location and we didn’t get free drinks either. We just got the regular store discount which was something like 5 - 10%. I don’t remember which it was, because, either way I couldn’t really afford to get drinks there lol.

The exception we had was if we were “sampling” drinks. So if me and a coworker were talking about a ‘secret’ menu item, we’d make one and one of us would keep it. When I wanted a sample while I was closing by myself I would make it a point to look at the recipe cards, for the sake of the cameras, and make my sample drink. I don’t know if you’d get in trouble for doing it by yourself, or the fact that technically you probably aren’t supposed to have a drink behind the bar, maybe just read the room.

Just make a drink for a “customer” and they didn’t want it. Simple

omg i felt this we cant have free drinks or food, if theres food to throw away my manager said we can buy what we want 50% off but its still pretty pricey:/

I work at a licensed store and we're allowed to have free drinks but we're not allowed to leave out a tip jar, but if someone offers to hand me a tip and no managers are around, I take it..lol cause all my coworkers said that's what they did 🤷‍♀️ that's a little different though I guess because even though I'm doing something I technically shouldn't, I'm not taking anything from the company. Honestly, it might be the "fuck capitalism" in me but I'd say just do it occasionally and if you get caught just say oh I thought we could cause I've seen everyone else do it. And then don't do it again. Or say you were going to have someone ring it up for you in a minute or something. Keep enough cash for it in your pocket and pull it out and go "see I was about to purchase it" 😂
