Awesome thanks! I’m in my 40’s so didn’t know if they would think oh lord let’s run this old bag through the ringer 🤣

I’m 43 and was hired last October as a Barista..it was a very casual interview…good luck…I do have to say I find this job exhausting…my body is not the same as it was in my 20s lol good thing the job is just my hobby basically to get me out of the house a few days a week
[deleted] [OP] 3 points 1y ago
Lol oh I hear you! I wondered if it was a lot for us older people lol. Do u ultimately love it though? No regrets taking it at 43? Thanks!

I do love it…it keeps my body and brain active plus the free drinks and tips are great…I probably would not be able to do full time it would be too much…I def noticed that my hearing and vision is on the decline as this job requires good hearing and vision since you need to read the screen and stickers and the stores are really noisy and loud so hearing customers and using a headset was difficult at first until I got used to all the background noise (blenders, grinders, music, coworkers) But yeah no regrets here 🙂

HAHA i’m not sure if you’ll have the same experice, i was hired through recommendation of a friend and while covid stuff was still pretty heated, i’m assuming they just didn’t want to go thru the process LOL. if you do have an interview just be polite, tell them you want to work as many hours as you can, and that you really like their business models and what they represent (or something like that)

Thanks!

of course!! i hope it goes well!

They might ask you something about how well you'll be able to work with/take direction from people younger than you since the majority of employees are going to be younger. So I would recommend coming up with a response for that in case they do.

Good plan thanks so much! I luckily am very friendly and have two daughters 19 and 13 so am used to working with a “team” and also I care for my aging mother. I like to think I can roll with the punches and work all the age groups. Thanks 😊

At 43 and the oldest partner in my store…I have a 20 year old daughter and she is even older than some of my coworkers…I have no issue taking direction from a younger person unless they are being disrespectful or immature

Just run. Seriously. It’s not worth the mental health
[deleted] [OP] 2 points 1y ago
Oh damn, really? Shoot I’m needing insurance :(

I also worked for the bux to afford a chronic condition. You will hit times when you question whether quality health care is worth the mental health decline that comes with it. As you sit bundled in blankets in your cold apartment you use your neighbors wifi to search job listings. You will quickly discover that no other company in the industry can match the healthcare accessibility. As you look deeper you realize that to get any decent healthcare in this country you have to work for one of the many corporations that have led to current working conditions by way of lobbying. It is then that you must decide between your mental health or your physical health and not look back.

I understand totally! I unfortunately am a single mom that takes care of her mom and I am also a widow. I’ve been punched in the gut often it seems. Independent insurance is crap so u really need a corporation. I went and checked out Walmart it was helllll!!! Hell I tell ya! I was there 20 min for an interview and the lady didn’t even have a table for us to sit out we just ran around the store with her asking me questions screaming in a walkie talkie. So after that interview Starbucks might appear normal lol thanks for the info!

Thanks for your reply. Can you tell me some examples please? I respect your opinion and feel I can make an educated guess with your scenarios. Thanks 😄

Just interviewed. Every single question was about customer service, just in different words. No questions like what are your strengths or why do you want to work here. They just wanted to hear in depth responses and specific experiences about good customer service you’ve given and that you’ve received.
[deleted] [OP] 1 points 1y ago
Awesome! I very much appreciate it! Thank you so much for responding 😄

I would consider that every manager is different with the questions they ask. In my interview, my manager asked questions about customer service, but he also asked: why I wanted to work there, how I work with a team to achieve a goal, how I respond to a peer when I see that they’re doing something incorrectly, etc.

It may be useful to practice a variety of types of questions, and in the interview try to get a feel for the type of personality/interests of the interviewer.
