When I lived in Colorado, all our customers called it. They would literally point to the sign that says "Pike Place" and still go "I'll take a Pike's Peak". In CO it's funny because Pike's Peak is there but in Cali? Why the hell are you calling it that here?

Pike's Peak is a pretty famous place. I know it from motorsports mostly.

No matter the name it still tastes like ass.

I honestly can't believe this is how Starbucks started. That coffee is AWFUL. I cringe getting it for people.

Pike Place was launched in 2008, when Starbucks was already firmly established as an international corporation. It certainly did not start out as the default roast in the original Pike Place location. I’m sure those roasts they did sell there actually tasted good or else we wouldn’t be here today. Unfortunate how things change…

and in the 00s A/SMs would order a bunch of breakfast blend, house blend to mostly serve, then we'd start using whatever beans we had a lot of, this was when we received beans in 5 and 2.5lb mylar bags and hand scooped bean orders.

Ha! Well now everything makes so much more sense. I never really cared enough to look up the history, I just assumed Pike was it's main coffee from the beginning.

I've wondered for four years how the fuck they kept one store open, let alone turned into a billion dollar company on the back of Pike roast. 🤣🤣🤣

So, in my own opinion, it's not Pike that tastes awful, it's any coffee brewed in our largr brewers. Pike made in either a pour-over or a french press isn't amazing, but it's drinkable. I can take two sips of Pike from the urn and dump the rest. I won't say that it's my first or even my second choice for my weekly markout, but it's not THAT bad when brewed at home.

Totally agree! I think our brewers are awful. Personally, I can't drink anything out of our brewers. My favorite coffee is Casi Cielo and our brewers can even make that taste horrid.
