I almost lost my temper and threw a matcha latte at a guest today :)(self.starbucksbaristas)

Two important points: • I have a slight tremor in my right hand • on windy days we don't set out our tip jars outside. The wind catches them and blows them off the sill.
As I'm trying to give this woman her stuff back, both hands full, she starts berating me for not putting a tip jar where she can see(it's visible thru the window, it's just not outside). Why isn't she allowed to tip us?
I politely tell her it's too windy to put the jar outside but after she gets her drinks, I can grab the jar. Then, instead of grabbing her items, she digs out money and is waving it around and still screeching at me for not having a tip jar. At this point my muscle tremor is starting to act up. I'm still holding her Venti iced latte in one hand and her card, receipt, and food item in the other. She notices my hand shaking and just says "what's wrong with you?? Huh? Why is your hand doing that? What's wrong with you??" Still won't take her items.
I'm getting fed up. I'm soloing drive, line is like 20 cars deep, and this woman is losing her mind. I pull all her items back thru the window so I can get our tip jar for her, to which her throws about 60 cents in nickels into and then berates me for not giving her her drinks.
I fucking hate entitled old people.

That is so awful what the fuck. I will never understand why some old people get SO PISSED at young people for having disabilities and differences.
I wouldn’t blame you for anyyyything you did in that situation.

This is fucking awful ugh I’m sorry, I applaud you for not actually throwing it at her (it sounds like she deserved it)

I have a tremor disorder and Starbucks customers were literally the WORST about it. I’m sorry you had this happen, friend.

That sounds like my high school English teacher lol 😂

I have refused to serve customers like this. I don’t care if I get reprimanded.

So sorry you had to go through that friend! This and mental health knowledge is exactly why I will forever not shut up about mental health and taking care of our partners. We deal with these things and we need to feel supported. I annoy the hell out of my store manager and shift leads with advocating for mental health and support (not that they find it annoying I’m just saying I talk a lot about it lol). It’s situations like that that I will refuse to let happen and I refuse to let customers walk all over me and my partners. Luckily we have a pretty great clientele of regulars that are amazing so we don’t really have a lot of bad interactions but still!

I’ll throw it at them. 😌

hey I have essential tremor in my hands and I’ve been there. It’s not easy and I’m really proud of you for keeping your composure as hard as it may have been. <3 having a hand tremor fucking sucks but it makes us some of the strongest mfs out there when it comes to people like that old fuck.
