So I’ve been working at my Starbucks for about four months and we just got a new SM. I’m still in high school but just turned 18. My hours have been cut so drastically with the new SM that i’m only working 4-6 hours a week. I’ve asked for more hours and she’s done nothing, and I was even told that people heard she wants to get rid of the high school workers. What should I do about this? I’ve already spoken to her about my hours but nothings changed.

Reach out to ethics. That’s age discrimination and she can and should be fired for saying stuff like that

It’s not age discrimination. Age discrimination is legally to protect workers 40 and over.
There is no guarantee of hours. This doesn’t count as retaliation.
Transfer stores is the best advice.

This varies by state! Some states do have laws in place to protect younger workers from age discrimination as well, but you’re right; under 40 is not a protected class. OP, I recommend looking into your specific state’s laws

that’s not even true

Which part?
That’s legally the definition of age discrimination as a protected class.
And there is no guarantee on hours within starbucks.
Doesn’t mean I agree, but it is accurate.
