Lmaoooo so accurate. I’m straight and a coworker asked me if I was a diversity hire 😂

Dude for real idk why lol also this reminded me of a comment a partner made once “do you know how difficult it is to be a straight male in Starbucks?”…….ok I see your point but also I will slap you (⊙ヮ⊙)

It's not that he's wrong per se, it's just that that alienation he's feeling is how women and gay folk feel constantly. Part of working at a minority safe haven I suppose.

I’ve worked at four different stores and every single one had at least one each of an L, a G, a B, and a T.

NAW FR WHY DO ALL THE GAY PEOPLE WORK HERE 😂 i love it
badatlife158 points1y ago
I mean one real reason is there are a bunch of trans people who work at Starbucks because Starbucks insurance covers gender affirming surgeries. Starbucks also used to be known for being very progressive and has been openly supportive of the lgbtq community so it makes sense we flock to places that accept us. Not sure if you were actually asking though lol 😬
aspiringgrandpa3 points1y ago
haha i actually didn’t know about Starbucks supporting gender reaffirming surgeries, which explains a lot because we have a lot of trans partners at our stores in my town!! i love that and i wish that’s what starbucks actually represented instead of penny pinching and union busting :(
badatlife153 points1y ago
Yep combined with the fact that you can get benefits working PT, it makes for a really popular option for a lot of queer people especially trans to feel safe and also be able to access those surgeries more easily. I’m a trans guy, had top surgery before I started at Starbucks, but liked the idea that if I decide to have any more surgery I’ll have insurance coverage :)

Panera Bread is the same but most female employees. But yeah, there’s a good percentage of gay partners at my store. I’m bi myself

5 out of 6 shifts are gay. 2 non binary people. 4 other gay people. Yeah the siren is fruity.
galaxydisco175 points1y ago
Pretty accurate. Both my manager and coworkers are gay, one is a drag queen, im bi, and my other three coworkers are straight.

Okay but I will forever believe a coffee shop just has fruity vibes. It don’t matter where it will always have underlined gay vibes could be do to the amount of coffee shop au I’ve read tbh
Lord_Twinkles4 points1y ago
Wish that was the case at my old coffee shop. I was the heavy lifting trans and bisexual rep for the whole shop and felt the need to stealth my identity since no one else was remotely queer except for the customers lol.

Can confirm my Starbucks is majority lgbt. I like it. I can be open about myself and am accepted completely.

I went from being one of like 9 partners who was in the alphabet mafia to leaving the siren and being the only little L at a BBQ place...it's eye opening for sure. I miss my letter squad 😭

Lol one of the partners I work with is a transfer, one of the first shifts we were working together this partner asked me (a trans guy that doesn’t tell many I’m trans for no real reason) if I had seen a TikTok of Starbucks partners being like “oh are you 💅 (insert the gay hand drop that was super trending like late last year)” and I was just like yeah I think I saw that and it’s so true. But then later my overthinking self was like were they trying to subtly ask me if I’m gay, but I’m super socially awkward so have never figured out how to bring that up and let them know I’m definitely part of the 🏳️🌈 if that’s what they were wanting to know. Lol
