Pink Drink and Sore Throat?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by CaptainBinxx
Recently in the past two months I’ve been addicted to pink drinks… like crazy addicted. It’s gotten to the point where I feel the need to get a venti almost everyday, I can usually go a day or two without it but it just tastes so good I have to go back and get one.
About exactly a week ago I started to get a pretty mild sore throat and I thought I got a cold or a little sick since that’s usually how it starts out for me, but I never got a stuffy nose or anything else. The only thing that has really changed that I could think of is drinking a pink drink almost everyday. Maybe I am sick or just have an irritated throat but if I stop drinking pink drinks to figure it out I’m not sure if it’s because I actually solved the problem or my sore throat coincidentally got better.
I was just wondering if someone has had a similar experience or know something I may not.
Also if anyone says the addiction is because of the caffeine, I’m 90% sure it’s not. I honestly just love the taste and prefer drinking something over eating a snack. I also am not a fan of coffee so the refreshers or frappes are more suited for me at Starbucks.

it could just be that you’re dehydrated or that it’s pollen season. i’m a mix of both rn and my throat is very sore

It’s still snowing a little where I live and so I totally forgot about pollen season since it still feels like winter. I’ve never had a bad reaction or got allergies but I am living in a new place so it could be different here. But yes I definitely do need more water.

I think it’s allergies and the pink drink is probably keeping you hydrated and that’s why you are craving it. Maybe try some otc allergy pills 💊

I definitely do need to drink more water since I only drink a cup or two a day. And I didn’t know I could just take pills for allergies. I’ve never been allergic to anything or had bad reactions to the spring.

Fun tidbit, over roughly 7-8 years all the cells in your body have been gradually replaced.
Taste buds change, you lose immunities, and can develop allergies at any time. It's commonly in your early twenties, mid thirties, and early forties.

Yep just go to Walgreens and ask a pharmacist to help you and they will show you what to take :)

Pink drinks aren’t really sufficient for hydration. You need water.

Totally agree I’m just saying she’s probably dehydrated and craving drinks and that’s why she can’t get enough pink drink. But yes water is best. :)

I mean it's possible it's causing irritation, I'm not a doctor by any means. But it's probably allergies or a mild cold.
CaptainBinxx [OP]5 points1y ago
I was thinking similar. If it is the drink my friend brought up it could possibly be a coconut allergy that I may have to see a doctor about to be sure. I’ve had coconut water or other coconut stuff in the past but never as a daily thing like this.

I’m willing to bet the large volume of acidic strawberry juice is to blame. Time to cut back before you get GERD
Loose_Bumblebee2 points1y ago
this happened to me a couple years ago, i stopped drinking it bc i’m pretty sure the coconut milk made me tongue and throat feel weird. drinking a strawberry refresher alone is fine for me so it’s probably the milk
CaptainBinxx [OP]2 points1y ago
Hopefully it is a coincidence since It’s my favorite drink right now and I’d hate giving it up. But at the worst I may just need to cut down my intake to every once in a while or just as a treat since so far it’s only been an irritated throat and nothing worse.

are u allergic to coconut milk maybe?
CaptainBinxx [OP]2 points1y ago
I’m not sure yet but I may try other alternatives before getting it checked out since if it was an allergy it’s not that severe. As far as I know I’m not allergic to anything so this is a new experience for me if I am.
We actually have a partner who found out she has a mild intolerance for coconut because this happened to her, and another one who started reacting to one of the ingredients in the refresher base. Nothing terrible but, they're not particularly healthy either.

This may seem odd, but try an Iced Passion Tea, no water, sub coconut milk, add some vanilla.
If you're still reacting, it's probably the coconut milk. If you're not reacting, it was probably something in the refresher base.

When I drink too much sweet drinks I will have a sore throat. Limit to twice a week or even 3 times a week.
Responsible_Snow71091 points1y ago
Hmm thats weird cuz i recently had a sore throat and only a sore throat too and this was like 2 or 3 weeks ago. I only drink things like cold brew or espresso at work so i dont kno if it has to really do with the drink but it mite be seasons changing and like someone else said, it could be pollen or allergies or something
