Will I not start earning vacation hours until I work there a year? I’m planning on having a surgery (still waiting for approval and testing and I know there’s a waitlist so still not sure when it’s happening so I haven’t told my store yet) and I would like to be able to use vacation (and maybe sick? Not sure if I’ll be able to use that for a surgery recovery) because I’ll be out for a few weeks (Depending on the type, could be anywhere from 4-6 weeks). Obviously I’ll never get to a point where I will have enough to use for the whole time but I’d like to be able to use some.
I just looked at my pay statement from last round and I currently have 0? I don’t remember taking any since July of last year and I only used sick time when I broke my finger this year

You only get vacation after 1 year sadly- I can’t remember how quickly sick time accumulates but my boyfriend took a medical leave of absence when he got surgery

That’s what I had when I broke my finger. I figured it would be like that for surgery as well - sucks about the vacation but it might be after I reach my one year so maybe I’ll have a little. Thank you!

After one year, you only get 1 vacation hour after working about 52 hours, so what you really need to focus on is accumulating sick time, which is earned at 1 sick hour for every 30 hours worked.

Got it, thank you! So if it’s only 1 hour for every hour worked would it be say 20 sick hours by the end of the week? Or are sick hours more like 0.1 is 1 hour of sick time?

Sorry that was a typo. I changed it to 1 sick hour for every 30 hours worked.
