Promotion advice - SSV (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Initial_Weekend584
I'm currently going through the process of moving up from a barista to a shift. Does anyone have any advice on the best way to develop for the position? My SM said from an operational stand point I'm pretty much golden, and that I should talk to the other shifts on the floor about maybe taking on play calling and other stuff. They also said to start doing some thorough store walks to start developing a broader customer perspective. My SM thinks I'm ready for this and I think I am too. Just very anxious about the whole thing. I have a good crew and really would like to improve shifts even just a tiny bit. Even if I make some mistakes in the beginning. Anyone have any advice or experiences to share outside of where my SM told me my focus areas should be?

Side note: I've been a partner for almost three years and haven't tried to promote until just now. So I have a lot of less experienced partners above me as shifts. It feels really weird to ask them to help me learn the role. Any advice on overcoming that kind of barrier?

I think its helpful to learn from other shifts what was difficult for them when they got promoted and how they improved. For me befire i train a new shift i just start quizzing my shift trainees on how long things are dated for and other things like that. Maybe you can ask any of your felliw shifts to teach you small stuff like that and to quiz you.

Learning to coach effectively and close learning gaps is also really helpful. Take note of effective ways ithers coach.

Biggest thing, believe in your abilities. Youll do better if you arent thinking you suck
