It's punishment for the unionization drive, it's blatantly obvious to anyone that's worked for sbux longer than 2 years. Shit like this was cleared up by beginning of March and everything was fine, now they're just cleaning house of the people that would want to start a union. Just more reason to start one.

no actually. because i was told that by April my hours would go back to normal, but my hours are constantly teetering betters 11/13 hours a week. just like you I’ve got bills to pay and this is honestly so stressful. i don’t think anyone’s hours have been normal since January :/

My hours were super high during January, but literally suddenly went from 25 a week to not even hitting that a month in the beginning of March. :/ I've heard all sorts of excuses for it, too. Everything from "oh starbucks just does this" to "we over staffed during the winter" (we did not) and "well the manager needs hours so the rest of us have to lose some"
It's exhausting and terrifying. I don't want to leave Starbucks, but I honestly feel like the new partners are being given more hours that I am and it hurts.

I feel you. At one point I was being scheduled 25+ gîtes a week, and now it’s been weeks since I’ve hit over 13 hours without picking up shifts or something in between. the excuses are the same, “due to labor shortages” “winter is slower season” but at this point they need to give us a clear and concise reason. everyone’s getting something different, and honestly i do agree. newer partners are getting the hours i once worked and it sucks but I’ve just been keeping my mouth shut i guess :/

Is this hour shortage just in certain parts of the country? My store/city hasn’t had a drop in hours, if any we’re getting more.
Gdfjaaok3 points1y ago
Same. We don't even have enough people to cover what's needed

I am leaving the company next week to move away and pursue my field (so not on bad terms at all, my manager has known this was coming for months) and my hours have been dwindling ever since. My last week, I have 5 completely open days of availability and I only got scheduled 16 hours as a shift supervisor. This week, I had 7 open days and I only got 21 hours. I don’t think it’s going to end soon enough. I really recommend doing the partner feedback survey in My Learning if you can. They need to know that people are struggling.

According to somebody on here, they said hours should start returning on the new schedule. I won’t believe it until I see it. Luckily my DM approved us to break the labor limit and give shifts at least 32 hours but baristas still are only getting 25 hours max

i have 0 shifts next week, i requested 3 off to celebrate my birthday and so they just didn’t schedule me that week. on the other hand one of us quit, and despite everyone hurting for hours and the bittersweet moment of him leaving so we can have his hours, they hired another person :^) on another note one of our shift leads said “i don’t think they’re actually cutting hours” after i mentioned that i was only working 12 hours one week, despite having almost completely open availability

Maybe look to transfer. I'm not having an hour shortage or be the to go cover
slobberingapparition1 points1y ago
Can't transfer, unfortunately, nearest store to us is about an hour drive out to the next town.

For my store, on a college campus, hours being cut is already bad and is only going to get worse. The only thing keeping me at Starbucks is getting my degree but after doing a bunch of searching there’s plenty of remote jobs I’m thinking of doing instead now. I also just turned 24 and got declared an independent through FASFA so really I could get my degree anywhere for basically what I’m paying now

My honest opinion is that with the staffing shortages that we went through last fall/holiday coupled with the constant call offs and isolations, most managers over staffed assuming they would lose people or need more people to cover shifts for isolations etc. If your stores are anything like mine, the call offs this past year have been ridiculous and out of hand, and managers got sick of running understaffed. At my store last fall it seemed like every time we hired someone we lost two other people. Now all the new hires since the beginning of the year have stayed, we haven’t had as much turnover since holiday ended, and isolations/call offs have calmed down. Unfortunately that means we’re over staffed and don’t have as many hours to give out, and like someone else mentioned, with the noncoverage budgets tightening managers are taking some of those coverage hours to meet their 40 hour requirement. I don’t see this as managements fault, they did what they needed to to protect the business. Personally I’d rather be over staffed than under and have there be people with the flexibility and willingness to pick up shifts when someone calls off. And I’d hope people using benefits would at least get their 20 hours protected (although that’s clear that’s not happening everywhere). None of this makes it any less frustrating though.
