Wheres the lid? The base? Are we supposed to be holding it up like Lady Liberty while making the rest of the drink? Sounds like a sequencing nightmare.

How about invent a system that doesn't have employees fighting to unionize
ebac738 points1y ago
Until that happens, (ha) Unions for all!
ItzBoogieMan113 points1y ago
Yeah Corporate is full of morons trying to make baristas more efficient, how about pay us fucking more.
BatWeary15 points1y ago
there’s plenty of ways to make baristas more efficient. only problem is customers would probably never return lol
blackcatcaptions10 points1y ago
This
LeftManatee198235 points1y ago
And figure out how to keep baristas for longer than a month. . . Paying more might help but quality consistent training is so needed!
So simple! But for some reason, corporate hears that and thinks, "Good God, that's shareholder money! INSTEAD, we'll make it so that they're always at least 1 person short, struggle to make a living even at 40hrs/wk (rare!), gaslight them into thinking they're not working hard/fast enough, promote toxic management that nitpicks every little thing they do, and then scratch our asses wondering why turnover is so high."
strangeyeena41 points1y ago
I’m so confused. What’s going on here?
MrsClaireUnderwood87 points1y ago
The dude invented a way to make cold foam with a handheld blender. I'm not sure how this actually solves the problem because you still have to walk away to get the unblended VSC and then you also need to walk back to the station to wash and set down.
It also looks annoying to wash whether the top portion pops off or not.
strangeyeena63 points1y ago
Talk about pointless. I wanna see some automated syrup pumps. My wrists be dying out here.
cookiemonstah8712 points1y ago
I'm short and have a hard time reaching our back row of syrups. If I'm on bar for even 30 minutes, I get shooting pains in my back due to never having time to let it heal properly after I strained it on window my first shift, MONTHS ago (too many cars pulling up too far away, and being my first day, I was too afraid to make them get out of their cars if they couldn't reach). My wrists aren't huge fans, either. Not to mention the annoying sticky hands/arms from the splashback. Automated syrup pumps would solve a lot of problems for me!
Calm_Foundation48231 points1y ago
Platform shoes? Like in actor John Travolta of movie,Saturday Night Fever, could it help or hurt?
Ibebarrett7 points1y ago
Not sure what venkat has to do with store partners, even if he does work in the lab
Beang0blin3 points1y ago
I asked my store manager this and he called me soon and gloom 😃🤌🏻 like sir I’m sorry if I’m thinking of functionality
DaddyGray69-24 points1y ago
You don't keep a pitcher in your hot bar fridges? No wonder ya'll complain so much, you're making your own jobs harder lol
MrsClaireUnderwood34 points1y ago
We have zero room for those pitchers in our hot bar fridges. You might be unfamiliar with high volume store set ups.
uwumoment6 points1y ago
uhmmm no that’s not how fridges are supposed to be set up… vsc should not be with the hot bar milk. it’s a cold bar item
DaddyGray69-2 points1y ago
Right, because it goes on cold bar beverages more than hot bar ones in April 2022.
Standard-Pin12076 points1y ago
Don't be a Karen in a world where we already get paid to breed them.
jazzysoranio39 points1y ago
Cute. But it’s a solution to a pretend problem. The problem has never ever been “oh gosh, this would be way more efficient if the blender were handheld.” Our problems are literally everything else. It’s like when our district manager came in to do an “observation” and said that our problems would be solved if we moved this person here and that person there and moved this station over here. Like, honey, you can cut up the blanket and stitch it back together however many ways you want to but you’re never gonna make the blanket bigger by doing that. The problem isn’t that sally is in the wrong position and the blenders are on the wrong counter, the problem is that we need ten baristas right now and we only have three. This is performance. This is pretending to make progress by solving made-up issues to distract us from the things they won’t give us.
cookiemonstah8710 points1y ago
I will say, a lot of issues at my store would be solved if our cold bar wasn't in a corner. We're always tripping over each other when someone needs sweet cream or foam. As soon as someone orders a frappuccino, everything else that needs to be done over there gets backed up because we just don't have room!
That being said, more people on the floor so we could have one or two people stationed there, and higher pay so we're all less stressed would be significantly more helpful than making the cold bar bigger.
jklmnopedy3 points1y ago
Perfectly said. I feel like it's also Howard coming back trying to say, "Your savior is here! Back only a week (or whatever), and already I'm making changes!" So he can pat himself on the back w one of his many wads of hundred dollar bills.
nickintheback0820 points1y ago
I’d love a portable cold foam blender I could have right next to my bar.
gilbasrevenge1 points1y ago
So you would keep vsc in your bar fridge too?
mozziemozzie2 points1y ago
our store does😇
nickintheback081 points1y ago
Sorry I say counter space because I guess a carafe would help. The foam is too much, but I think the blender is a decent idea
nickintheback081 points1y ago
At this point you might as well. I just opened a new store though and we have a ton of counter space, definitely not the case at my old stores
Zealousideal-Star44817 points1y ago
Why don’t we get new headsets that 1. Customers can hear us better. 2 we can hear customers and 3 we can hear eachother! Ones that can be repaired or replaced frequently since it’s is a company wide problem that causes our drive times to rise and customer connections to lower. Let’s make cup lids that actually stay on and we can get the dome lids on without cracking the cup. Let’s make the stores easier for baristas to work at and find coverage when they do a human thing like get sick! Or even crazier concept let’s allow Starbucks baristas to unionize and not make it a small store by store decision by a whole company thing where we out source people who actually know how to unionize and they get paid to figure it out. Let’s allow baristas to have free drinks on days off! Let’s add more benefits to help younger baristas like buying a car or applying for scholarships for colleges that arnt ASU! Let baristas be a bit more relaxed with dress code, if you can wear it in middle school you should be allowed to wear it to work!
cookiemonstah876 points1y ago
If the headsets could also somehow not pick up our voices from the speaker, that'd be amazing! I might actually be able to handle working DTO in that case! Hearing my voice echo back at me makes my brain short circuit.
Giving shifts permanent permission to temporarily shut off mobile orders when we're swamped and getting yelled at by every other customer because they had to wait would also be nice.
And of course pay should be such that anyone working full time hours is able to comfortably pay all their bills and actually make use of the healthcare and 401k benefits.
Also fully agree to everything else you said here!
ihateyousoymatcha3 points1y ago
I've actually lost %16 hearing in my right ear. I only put my headset on the right side.
cookiemonstah873 points1y ago
I've been worried about this. My left ear is already a little worse than my right due to being a drummer who didn't wear earplugs in high school. It's only noticeable if I'm in a situation where I have sound only going in one ear - like on the phone or using our headsets. Basically I can technically still hear everything with my left ear, but it's just enough weaker that it's harder for me to process what's being said. I REALLY don't want to make my right ear equally bad!
Zealousideal-Star4481 points1y ago
I wonder if there was a way to not pick up the loud break screeching or loud engines? The sirens from emergency vehicles also make my ears hurt. Ideally these headsets would also let you know well before the battery is dying instead of randomly screaming in your ear to change the battery while your in the middle of an order.
Zealousideal-Star4482 points1y ago
This tho!!! Like we like mobile orders when it isn’t rush because it gives us time to make the drink nice and allow the green beans to take their time and learn to do it right, but when there is the “off to work” and “after school” rush it’s terrible to get a 7 drink mobile. There should be a limit to the amount you can order on mobile, or it should at least be more accurate with the estimated time. If only it can look at our drive times at figure it out, or if every time the mobile is ready we actually check it off on the mobile tablet thing so the customers can know when it’ll be ready. I’ve seen some mobile orders on here that will take 20 minutes for the espresso shots to pull alone, let alone whole drinks.
cookiemonstah872 points1y ago
I always wonder how often people even look at the times. We get people who order in the parking lot and then wall in expecting it to be ready. Even better, at least once a month since I started, someone has pulled up to the drive-thru speaker and said "um... sorry... we're placing a mobile..." as in they haven't finished the order yet!!! JUST ORDER AT THE SPEAKER!!! YOU'RE ALREADY IN THE DRIVE-THRU!!!!They always get all huffy when we ask them to either pull back around after they've sent the order in, or just... order at the speaker...
Zealousideal-Star4481 points1y ago
THIS HAPPENS SO OFTEN!!!! Like I get it if it’s a really complicated order that you have saved to your favorites, but it never is!!! It’s usually just an iced caramel macchiato upside down with almond and they don’t even have the brain power to remember it. We have a regular who only does mobiles but I swear he does it as he’s sitting at the light before turning into our lot cuz the sticker will print and he’s in the drive line barely 2 minutes later.
Assiqtaq13 points1y ago
I want them to work on making a shaker that is just the cap to the cup so I don't have to use the dang shaker separately. Alcohol serving bars can do it. They don't always, but they can.
But with this thing, you know it would just end up living near the milk fridge. Not that I have anything to complain about. Kiosk.
cookiemonstah874 points1y ago
Yeah, for sure! Boston shakers are the most commonly used shakers in the industry, and they're just a metal cup that is slightly larger than a standard pint glass, and a pint glass. Proper technique involves straining the drink out without the broken ice. If the finished drink gets ice, it gets poured over fresh ice.
However, it's not uncommon to see bartenders serve the drink in the pint glass they shook it in, especially if they're slammed. (Worth noting if you receive a drink like this, the ice will melt a little faster and the drink will get watered down sooner, but otherwise it's the same. Usually.)
As for our shakers, I have a few fairly minor complaints (though minor annoyances build up through the day, especially when 90% of the drinks being ordered are shaken)
1. I really don't mind the shaking part, but I hate having to pour everything into the cup when I'm done because unlike glassware, our cups like to run away if we don't hold onto them while pouring.
2. I'm also not a fan of how the lids fit because shaking drinks makes the lid seal onto the cup. With a Boston shaker, you remove the metal cup by gently hitting the side to break the seal. It's easy, and makes a fun, satisfying *pop* sound. Haha Shakers with lids like ours can be a lot harder to break the seal. Ours are of course plastic, so they don't actually freeze together like metal ones do, but metal shakers with lids are designed to come apart more easily.
3. Not actually an issue with the design, more a reason I agree we should be able to shake drinks in their cups: when everyone is ordering teas and refreshers, at least in my store, we end up having to maneuver around each other and we get in each other's ways a lot. If we could shake drinks in their cups, we wouldn't have to be reaching for the sink unless it's a watee-based drink. Would cut down on a lot of unnecessary extra movement.
4. THE MATCHA POWDER IS SO HARD TO RINSE OUT
Assiqtaq1 points1y ago
\#4 is the first reason I complain about it. I hate how green that stuff just makes everything.
ihateyousoymatcha2 points1y ago
... Technically the shaker lid fits on Venti cups but the cups don't have the same measurement lines.
That's a really good idea though, just give us shaker lids and modify the recipes to use standard cup markings
Assiqtaq1 points1y ago
Yes, they do. The bottom line corresponds to the tea line. The middle line is the juice line. The top line is the water line. They correspond. They were intentionally created that way, actually.
aleksndrars10 points1y ago
Impressively stupid
PerspectiveCapable986 points1y ago
It’s literally for cold foam on hot bar
vsmatikov6 points1y ago
I don’t see the drawbacks here?
CompassesByNorthWest22 points1y ago
when you make cold foam you really shouldn’t just be standing there watching it blend, you should step away and get your next drink prepped. the blender being handheld offers no benefits because you’ll have to be holding it and trying to do other work with one hand. It’s a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist
vsmatikov2 points1y ago
I hear you and you’re not wrong. I am sure the blender can be set down where we you carry it and let it blend.
Necessary_Low9395 points1y ago
Sounds like a messy situation p
ElijahLordoftheWoods4 points1y ago
Oh my god Howard I just want to be able to pay my damn rent
ihateyousoymatcha4 points1y ago
Just give me a churning soft-serve vat of VSCF and topping shakers for the top. No more blending strawberry puree or matcha or three pumps of a particular syrup in.
sequineddoomcloud4 points1y ago
the urge to blast cold foam at customers who lean over the bar would be so strong, idk if i would be able to restrain myself 💀
ihateyousoymatcha3 points1y ago
Sometimes I daydream about shooting whipped cream at them
ImJustTheSimulation2 points1y ago
And the stupid ass smirk on his face when he introduced it LOL
Calm_Foundation48231 points1y ago
Industrial design students should be reading this that understand engineering of different sorts and are well read. But then of course they must have strengths and skills in business entrepreneurship, which therefore would cause competition in this space,oh yeah must have the flair for interior design! Can be straight, there was a straight guy who did womens fashion spotlight on Entertainment Tonight back in the late 80’s.

I would love not having to constantly bend down for milks and putting them away, make a glass fridge sit on the counter
nickintheback081 points1y ago
It’s a portable blender, you don’t have to hold it while you use it lol
cookiemonstah871 points1y ago
I think we would in my store. I honestly don't see how we would have space at the hot bar, even for something that small
DaddyGray690 points1y ago
I know I sound like a dick but this entire subreddit is just an echo chamber of people acting like this company is evil and how they're responsible to come in and solve every tiny little problem even if it's an incredibly simple fix that most people with a 5th grade education could solve in their sleep. I am sorry thoug that your leaders don't seem capable of adapting to the modern business, but outside of pumpkin season, I put foam on far many more iced lattes than I do cold brews, so it's more impractical to not have 1-2 pitchers in our hot bar fridges. Hell, I use sweet cream on hot bar far more often than I do coconut or soy milk most days. Don't pretend this isn't a useful invention just because your stores aren't set up for the current product mix of an average starbucks.
