Literally call out saying that you’re sick (preferably a few hours before shift start) write in the DRB ( daily records book) the day you come back that you need to use sick time , write the amount of hours your shift was for and that’s it

You still have to call out sick. Write it in the book next time you're at work.

In the book that you see all the shifts writing in. Flip to “punch communication log” find this weeks dates and write how many hours you missed and “sick”. Don’t initial it until you see that your manager put it in the system for you

screenshot EVERYTHING, and make sure everything is in writing. if you have to call out for ANY reason, make sure to text or email your manager BEFORE calling them, take screenshots of any and all conversations that include clocking sick time. if your SM does end up writing you up for NCNS, you will have proof to provide to your DM if need be, ALWAYS protect yourself first. if you require a doctors note, make sure to both take a picture of the note with the date attached and send it to your SM the same day if possible (I'm a little paranoid, so I'm always very diligent with this, so if it's not same-day it's not a huge deal as long as the note is dated)

there is a book that is supplied to every store that includes a weekly planner, punch communication log, etc. if you're not a shift, you may not be as familiar with it, but you should be aware of the book, as it's important to know where to log your punches if you forget to punch in on the iPad one day

I need a doctors note? I thought I was protected as long as I’m using my “protected sick time”

depends on the store, the SM, etc., I had covid back in January and had to provide proof of a positive test, some SMs are more serious about obtaining doctors notes than others - you have sick time and you should absolutely use it wherever possible

For covid it's different because it's not your protected sick time being used, it would be covid pay. Protected sick time requires no Dr. note. The only time you'd have to show one is to sedgwick if you call off more than 3x in a row and need to take a leave of absence due to sickness.
