Store Managers…how did you get there and why? (self.starbucksbaristas)

I’m just curious. I know a few SMs. Some just really love working at a
Starbucks. Some ended up there as a back up plan. Some just couldn’t get a better job. Plenty of different stories.

Anyways, I’m just curious. I’ve been on and off with Starbucks since 2016. I kept coming back in between other jobs because for myself this was just a safety net job. Recently though I quit. And I made a promise to myself that this time I’m not coming back. Why? I’m just tired of it and if I continue to just be an on and off partner I’ll never get to where I want to be career wise.

But yeah, how did you guys end up as an SM? Are you gonna move up even further? Is this temporary for you? Are you just gonna be an SM until retirement?

I can only speak from, my perspective, but I'll be leaving the company soon enough. Starbucks is a sinking ship that would rather care more about the persona and reputation they maintain, then to make it an actual environment welcome for all to succeed. Instead partners can't afford the bare necessities, we can't guarantee them hours and God forbid they talk about why they're upset or what's making them look for another job, it's somehow now our job as SM's to help sort that out so they stay and don't talk about it at work. I mean honest maybe if we gave more than 2 seconds of shit about people and their well beings, people would actually wanna work here and make this a potential living, instead hoo yah union busting!
