Pls help, I’m still fairly new and have cold bar down but hot bar is a nightmare. My trainer didn’t really explain steaming milk that well and I always end up making a cappuccino.

Hi friend! If you always end up making a cappuccino you are probably aerating the milk for too long. What you want to do is pour your milk to the appropriate size line on the steaming pitcher, fully submerge the steam wand, start the steamer and then slowly pull your steaming pitcher down until you hear a paper tearing sound - this is aerating. After 1-3 seconds for a latte or 6-8 for a cappuccino put your steaming pitcher down until it’s done. You got this !! :)

after you’re done, you can also give the steaming pitcher a gentle tap on the counter and a little swirl to pop some of the bubbles. This is called grooming the milk

I learned way more about steaming milk from YouTube than I learned from my trainer. Do a quick search.

What kind of machine do you have? My store has a Melina that aerates the milk by itself, but I usually aerate it a couple seconds to actually get some decent foam. If I do it for more than a couple secs though I’ll end up with a Cappuccino… dunno if other peoples machines do that
